Furlong has done well for £1.5m and he never looked like he’d make it as a full-back at a high level with us in a million years. He courted Eze enough.
Nice call if he gets the bump from WBA, but imagine he'd be way out of what we can afford, especially if you take into account how much it would cost to jettison Warburton and his back room.
Not for one minute am I suggesting that we get rid of Warbles........but, if the board do go down that road Darren Moore at Donny would be a good cheap option, he's got them playing some great football on a smaller shoestring budget than we've got.....
I would be surprised SM if Warbs and his staff are worth more than relegation and implications of losing most of our talent and sponsorship?
Keeping him doesn’t guarantee we go down. The bookies have us at 9/2 to do so so fairly unlikely. Sacking him equally doesn’t guarantee we stay up.
It may well be for Warburton, how many more winless games with no cutting edge upfront can we go? Swansea and Norwich to follow doesn't inspire confidence. Everyone probably takes Wycombe as a gimme but they're competitive so it'll be no pushover...
We won't be getting any cutting edge until January, at best, whoever the Manager is. And I doubt anyone takes any Championship team as a gimme when we can't score. Come to that, I doubt it'll be "fatal" for Warburton even if he were sacked, I'm sure he'll survive, probably at another Club who think changing Manager with the regularity of the Mrs monthly is the way to go. Heard he is rich and dont need the work anyway, but not so sure about that one. It might well be fatal for the finances and future of our Club if they throw Warbuton out now, have to pay him off, and bring in a new Manager, his cronies, and the new players he wants to fit his style of playing. If we sack Warburton and appoint Eustace as a Manager it would still cost to pay him off, seems little point. What we need are a goal scorer and a box to box big mobile midfielder, no need to sack the Manager.
I would not want Bilic. I would also not want to get rid of MW when (1) there is a transfer window shortly and a new manager will not really get to know the players. However if BOS wanted to go in this window maybe its the time to let him go. Additionally, we have a relatively young squad, some of whom have only played this season together. I want MW to utilise all sub choices, bring in a defensive specialist coach and finally, start playing to the strengths of Dykes. Otherwise, we have wasted 2 mill plus on a player that will probably come back and score loads against us. As he signed a 4 year deal, I do wonder whether playing systems and formations were discussed prior to signing. Someone suggested signing Glenn Murray - he has the experience we need - even a loan to the end of the season.
This manager knew that at the end of last season and has signed two 'strikers' who struggle to score in open play. As for midfielders we signed a sicknote from Coventry and a couple of loanees we already had on board. If that's an example of his foresight I'm not holding my breath for a remedy in January...
I’m not saying he’s used his meagre funds well as he hasn’t but any sort of proven striker was out of our price range. We were close to signing Moore who’s a more experienced/proven/just better version of Dykes. Think Bonne was a bit of a panic buy after missing out on someone else who I’ve forgotten now. To re-sign Cameron rather than putting that wage towards a midfielder who can run was absolutely criminal though. Thomas I can only pray is on minimum wage.
Think I will give Thomas a bit of time. He has been injured for the majority of his time with us so I would not write him off just yet.
There is no chance of any manager Warburton or replacement being given a stack of cash to spend in January The club is still haemorrhaging cash thanks to the continuing minimal match day income, and I imagine that the club shop isn't exactly selling out either We are going to have to rely substantially on the personnel that we already have
