I'm going to hold judgement until the window closes, for all we know this could secure us Callum O'Hare. That would be wonderful.

On the face of it, Either more than €40Million or he comes back and helpa us compete next year in the premier (Hopefully).

There's a good chance that Charly wants at least a temporary move because playing for Juve for the remainder of the year gives him a better chance of playing in the CONMEBOL tournament and this summer's Olympics. I'd prefer to keep him obviously, but I'd rather have him back next year than never again.

I hope he comes back too. I guess we put some faith in Rothwell, Stu and Brooks for the quality driving us forward. And no injuries!

Not a suprise really. He has clearly struggled with Russball which has shown in Martins reactions sometimes. Thought something like this may happen when he bought on Rothwell instead of Charley, against Swansea. I would rather this happen than lose someone like KWP which would hit our automatic promotion chances massively.

I don’t really see why people think he will definitely be back.

I mean yes 35m seems a stretch and I’m not sure Juventus have that kind of money lying around, but why have that kind of clause if there isn’t some at least some kind of intention to move him on.

Something is off there, he’s clearly an extremely good player and should be absolutely ripping the Championship apart but it’s just not clicking for him in RMs system somehow, although I would say he still does have an impact in more of his appearances than not.

Maybe Juve need a penalty taker.

You could make the guess that he hasn't settled and the language is still an issue, but then why would he have signed a new 5 year contract in October?

On O'Hare, he played the entire game last night for Coventry so I wouldn't think an imminent transfer likely, not least of all because I'm not sure we can spend the money due to FFP.

Personally, I think you're reading too much into it. I suspect the future fee is there to make it clear to anyone sniffing around him how much we rate Charly. 35mill is a huge fee for someone who is still relatively unproven.

Spend what money? O’Hare is apparently on his last 6 months. If he is going and has made clear he won’t be signing a new contract then he won’t be going for big money. Indeed the Doyle fee and the Alcaraz loan fee might mostly cover it. I’m not sure I see it happening though

Or is your point that FFP means we won’t spend any money at all?

Nearly every match thread I’ve seen talks about Charly being the one to give the ball away the most. The complete opposite to what most have suggested in that they would expect him to be tearing up this league. Especially given how many ordinary teams are in it. Now maybe he actually has just without the numbers to support it and his absence will be notable. But I’d assume the club doesn’t fully see it this way otherwise he’d start more

Think it’s more of a Southampton valuation to clubs who will be watching how he gets on in Italy? It also safe guards the clubs valuation if he has a successful loan spell. Juve know the price before the loan is agreed.

If a player is getting in the Juventus team and not ours... what is going on in the world?

I don't know how hard up we are with FFP tbh. Just going off the feeling I get from the business we've done and the stories you hear it would seem like we don't want to/or can't really spend at all this window, and I'd assume Cov would still want around £5m for him to make it worth it versus letting him go on a free at the end of the season assuming he will help them with their play off push. That's where I was coming from.

Charly gives the ball away a lot, but that's also the nature of the role he plays in the team. Trying to make things happen in attack typically means taking more risks. He's not in the team to recycle the ball with safe passes. The stats suggest that when he starts we win and when he doesn't we don't win as often. His personal stats might not be as fantastic as we might have expected, but I do still think he has a positive impact on our attacking play when he plays and is a brilliant player to be able to bring on if we're struggling to break a team down. As someone else said earlier, particularly with 4 of the toughest away fixtures still to come that will likely make or break our automatic push.

Cant really say I'm that bothered, not that he's done anything actually wrong.

Good luck to him. Him doing well out there can only be good for us and if we did get anywhere close to £35m for him then that is brilliant business.

Hasn't done much right this season either sadly. Not really arsed tbh, which is strange.

Also FFP has finally come and hit English Football. Last season in the Premier League £800 million was spent in the January window. This season with just over 24 hours to go the figure is around £50 million.
IMHO, Southampton have been pretty smart with FFP. We got in big profits for this financial year wiping out large parts of the expenditure from last season’s disastrous transfers. I think this will eventually lead to transfer values dropping and clubs having smaller transfer budgets. If we do get promoted this year, it should leave us in a stronger position due to the work done this summer and the relatively small transfer spend. This shows with how quiet Leicester and Leeds have been in this window. Leicester are struggling to get a £2 million pound deal done due to FFP and are having to restructure the deal, and when they get promoted chances are they would still need to sell their star player Dewsbury - Hall, as there balance sheet won’t be great from this season.

Premier League and Championship financial rules are much different. Championship is far more stringent ultimately, so it takes real effort in order to pass the Championship rules and then fail them in the PL shortly thereafter...it took buying 42 players and a net spend of £250m over two years for Forest to pull it off, and even then they're close enough to be able to lodge an appeal against sanctions.

We'll be fine. Leicester will almost definitely be fine if they get promoted, too.
