Jimmy Greaves RIP

Never knew him as a player, but like many folk of my age, Saint and Greavsie was an absolute must watch back in the day.

Will be a poignant moment later at the Spuds v Chavs game.

 

He was before my time so never saw him play and only knew as part of the double act with St John.

Met St John a few times as he lived not far from my school and you’d sometimes see him just watching amateur / kids togger on the touch line.

Boycie has gone as well today ffs. RIP to 2 legends.

 

I paid my respects on the match day thread, so will just copy it over...

I knew Greavesie, more as tv personality than remembering him for his football. He kept us all entertained before the days of sky. Aside from Grandstand and The World of Sport, his show was probably the most down to earth for footie fans at the time.

As this following clip shows, he was even popular with the stars of the day, afterall do you really get a much bigger accolade than interviewing the likes of Fergie and Bobby Robson with his casual banter style...

Same as nearly all on here, only seen footage about him, and his playing days.

One of the giants of the English game and a Chelsea man. Quickest player over 5 yards, sorely missed as not only one of the very best but a great celebrity. RIP

 

Have to say I thought he was a lot older. 81 doesn't seem that old in this day and age.
