I’m happy to do that at any level.” Southgate explained Maddison’s omission by saying: “I think he’s a number 10 and, at the moment, we’ve not been playing with a 10.” But the Leicester man believes he is flexible enough to play wherever he is needed. He said: “I played as a number eight against Poland [Under-21s, last Thursday]. I played there for my club in the last few weeks. Wherever Aidy [Boothroyd, U21s manager] wants me to play, whatever formation. I found myself on the right. #whataman
They scored 10 in 2 games so Southgate clearly did something right. He's no longer our player I'm not fussed what he does anymore.
I think at this moment we have bigger financial prospects than a tiny percentage of further transfer fees from an ex player. Do Coventry get any cut still ?
I think there's an argument that Madders should be included to offer another option should Plan A not work. Yes there were 10 goals scored but it was against lowly opposition. England beat the teams they should have beaten in the World Cup and credit for that, but it was a different story against Croatia. Against better sides they could still struggle and need more finesse.
