For those who haven't seen this on the news today, Paul (who started Hull 4 Heroes) had his van broken into and all his tools stolen while working with the DIY SOS team, a Just Giving page has been set up to fund some replacement tools... https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/emily-gawthorpe-1
I've met Paul and he's really top guy. The company I worked for did a Hull 4 Heroes charity and came in and did a talk. It's such a heartless and horrible thing to steal someones tools they use to make living with.
Just two years ago, the people who said "That's Hull for you" would probably have been mostly Hull residents. I'm pretty sure that now, those comments will have been from people outside of Hull and that most Hull residents would be quite offended by them, given the resurgence in pride created by City of Culture.
Nick Knowles says in an interview, the phrase is a load of bollocks, pointing out all the workers grafting on the DIYSOS thingy are 'That's Hull for you'
A bunch of ****s have been driving all over Lincolnshire, breaking into honest workers vans and stealing their tools. My brother in law next door had his van done. It's not unique to Hull. It also as devastating regardless of what your job is. I'd like to know where these tools end up, surely no tradesman would be buying them?
Car boot sales. My shop was robbed a few years ago ( I sell tools) and they wiped me out completely, and as the flat above the shop was not occupied at the time I didn't have any insurance. It cost me thousands of pounds. A customer came into the shop the following morning and said' you were working late last night, I saw you unloading from your van late into the night'....... Police were not interested and said my tools will be on the car boot's, probably in Leeds. Not saying this fella's tool's will be in Leeds, but they will end up on car boot sales somewhere.
