This is the second time this season we've conceded at least 3 when playing against a team with pacey strikers.

West Brom when Shane Long and Odemwingie absolutely destroyed Coloccini and today where Andy Johnson ran riot.

Is this down to the fact that our defenders are just too slow or that we play a high line that is just too high? It's really starting to annoy me now.

PS : **** Duff , Shola , Lee Mason , Fulham fans , Dempsey and George Bush.

    High line is the problem.

Bit of both. Colo's hardly quick, and Williamson's one of the slowest players in the EPL. But the high line kills us every time.

Definetly the high line. I remember Hyypia/Carragher for Liverpool being great for years and they were slow as ****, so it not that.

It's not lack of pace, Colo and Williamson aren't slow defenders, but we need to learn when to play a highline and when not to. This is the 2nd time Pardew has got it wrong, against WBA and today.

how dare you point all the blame at the high line... that is just silly, the high line has nothing to do with the fact shola conceded 5 goals <doh>

Colo's quicker than most defenders in this league mate. He's not "quick" but he's quick for a CB.

Williamson isn't slow if we're talking CB pace, but he's certainly not quick either.

They are slow, but I agree it doesn't have to be a problem if we don't play that ridiculous high line.

They are. Colo over a short burst isn't too bad, but c'mon, mate, Williamson? Seriously? He's one of the slowest in the league by a way

Santon is really quick and so is Tavernier. I agree though we need more options, a big quick center-back should do.
Coloccini and Williamson were diabolical today.

Yeah if we want to be playing a higher line we need faster CBs but I don't think we can blame the entire loss on high line or slow CBs at all. Poor defensive second half all round really.

    He's not man!

It's this crappy high line we play some times. Colo and Willo aren't slow, they're just not as quick as strikers with pace, simple as.

Colo's isn't fast paced, but he accelerates quite well, and isn't slow. But over a long distance, not many CB's are going to catch a quick striker, I think people just compare our CB's pace to strikers with pace.

Willo isn't fast, but he's not snail pace either.

This is the first game his pace has been an issue. Johnson is quick as lightning and you can't expect Williamson to keep up with him.

Oh and may I add that if Shola starts one more game this season I'm going to assassinate him?

Just thought I'd let you know.

Colo and Willo are slow, but not for Center backs. How many CB's in this league have pace? Luiz?

Colo and Williamson are going to get outpaced by quick strikers when playing a high line ffs.

It's tactical suicide man. Any side that plays a high line against a side with pace is going to get murdered.
