Our small, distant hopes of doing well in this competition are already being extinguished before a ball is kicked.

If Lampard's injury is serious, Henderson will take his place.

Which could be a blessing in disguise as Lampard and Gerrard has never worked.

On the other hand that would mean almost a quarter of the squad would be Liverpool players - oh dear...

The best centre mid in the squad. Without him we're truly ****ed.

Hargreaves is probably recording another Youtube video to send to the FA as we speak.

I think it could have worked this time around. In Chelsea's run to the CL final, Lampard showed a lot of discipline and his all round game was class. I was very impressed with how he changed his game last season. If he is indeed ruled out for the Euro's with this new injury, then it's a huge blow, IMO.

This. Lampard played a deeper role behind Mata in midfield, and did it very well.

This is like Godzilla dropping dead, only for the Creature from the Black Lagoon to suddenly appear. Lampard dropping out (if he does) is fantastic, but Jordan Henderson?

Look: Lampard was excellent for Chelsea this season, no doubt, as he generally has been. But he's been worse than awful in an England shirt, and the idea that this will change in the twilight of his career is wacky. More to the point, the discussion of how both he and Gerrard will play for England is extremely galling, when I along with many others were praying this would, finally, be the time we'd get to see other people fail.

But: Richards, Lennon and Baines left out of the squad, and Henderson in ? Seems insane.

And so the player cult continues. Lampard out, so what! What have we ever done when he has been playing. Football is a team game that requires all 11 to play together. Rooney up front we can just get away with but Prima Donnas in midfield we can do without.

Next news? Gerrard pulls hamstring! Great! now we can get on with producing a team.

Unfortunately Henderson and Gerrard hasn't either.

I actually think for all the stick young Jordan has had, he has actually played better when Gerrard hasn't been there. We'll see as I think there's definitely a player in there somewhere (just not really at the moment!)

Who gives a ****? Club > country. Plus we're winning feck all with Roy 'conservative' Hodgson, he still thinks it's the 90's.

Well Liverpool are at least good at Cup football.........

How Henderson can be in this squad is beyond belief.

A shame for Lampard - A world class player he has been no doubt, and one of the small percentage of footballers who comes across as a genuiinely likeable guy - so I have great pity for him

But to say this is the reason England may struggle is slightly bizarre - Lampard and Gerrard together, for whatever reason, have never, ever, ever, ever worked for england. Also - I quite like the idea that new players are being brought in to start for england in a tournament with very little expectation and a chance to mould a team for the world cup, which lampard will be too old to play a part in.

If Frank getting injured is the trigger for this, while undoubtedly there will be times his talents will be missed, it could be a blessing in disguise long term.
