We rarely win at the home of the Barcodes. I’m putting the loss at St James’ down to Antonio Conte and the players concentrating on winning the FA Cup. After battering Huddersfield and only getting a draw, what was the point in pushing the players to win a Newcastle?

I think you are exactly right, no one was trying.
Which is the core of our problem. There was a chance of 4th place before the game, not much but an opening.
Considering we have players on over £200,000 pw, and most on more than £100,000 per week, plus a manager on 9 mill a year, I'd have thought everyone should have fought like tigers.
Money aside, where is the spirit, the self pride, the integrity and the professionalism?
The players can't be allowed to pick and choose when they will put some effort in, they ,by definition have to give 100% every second they wear the shirt.
That it has got to this is a pox on all of them , plus the manager and the Board.
Serious, major overhaul of players, management, coach and especially Club philosophy required. We are a laughing stock.
Hope we batter Man Utd, If nothing else this game will expose the real worth of our individual players and our mystifying form over the season.

Unfortunately you could ask the same question of nearly every team in the PL (probably every team but I can think of at two sets of supporters that wouldn't accept that).

You burnt all the above on the altar of 100-200K/week wages.

If all players got their "basic" wages, then to get that 100-200K/week
at season END depends on targets (PL win, CL win/qualification,
domestic trophies, personal targets like goals scored or assists etc) ,
then you might see some of what you lament.

But as all clubs do not even try this, then if you do, some of the
mercs will soon jump ship to the clubs that don't but pay what you do.

You could , but we are the only team with such a toxic mixture of player power, Manager strop, Board incompetence/ arrogance in the recent history of PL. And no end in sight,

    Basic human greed.
But we are the only dopes that keep on doing it when we are going backwards. Billionaires arrogance knows no boundaries.
Better we were owned by a bona fide Company with some responsibility to sahreholders rather than a Billionaires plaything.

You're absolutely right. No one could be sure we would beat Brighton, so you should have gone for the win. It was totally defeatist.

    1. Your last 4 seasons have been up down up down.
So no real signals of going backwards (like the last two seasons
    for the Goons) .

    2. Hasn't the fact you pay such wages at a minimum, been the
reason you have had the players who can deliver the "ups" ??

Were you saying that when the PL titles and UEFA cups
were rolling in, or only now, when you think the gig is over ??

It takes a Gooner to spell things out on this message board. Personally, I’m happy with a Russian Billionaire owning this club and I’m happy with Antonio Conte as manager. I might be in a ‘minority’ on this massage board but I’m delighted with what we’ve won during the Abramovich era.

can't argue with the trophy haul.

I'm grateful to abramovic even if he has been the problem to creating a dynasty lol

You aren’t. Roman’s random running of the club has been very successfully and given us incredible success.

Only United match is for trophies in England.

Right on the money and there are a few jokers who will be sharing his cab - roll on the final and the end of the season.

It’s been a roller coaster ride with regard to this club having had so many different style managers during the Abramovich era. However, football is an entertainment business and, surely, no one can complain about not having been entertained especially with the magnificent trophy haul.

I was. No one has been a stronger critic than me of RAs ridiculous spend and fire policy. I have been on about building a team that is sustainable with season top ups vs wholesale sackings and megaspends. I have sounded off on our youth development ,along with two or three others, for ever, and Ive repeatedly said the ONLY way to run a club is to start with proper foundations , ie football savvy people, decent players, then put in the hard work and do it all with patience.
Unfortunately our Billionaire, like pretty much all of them, has lost the ability to understand the word "no", because his money normally results in the answer "yes". Instant gratification is the available way of life, patience is totally missing., the idea of being wrong never considered.
RA has now taking over transfers "personally', has already made up a wish list for the manager, whoever that poor bastard might be, and is giving every appearance of carrying on as if everything is AOK.
It's such a shame because with RA's obvious determination, if he could only see the wood for the trees, we could be in a much better position ,and he with more of his cash still in his wallett.
Now he is hugely behind the wealth of our main competetive Clubs and his spending is losing its' power, maybe, hopefully a single penny will drop and be the key to a better future.
Winning is great, but to be always in a position to win ,even greater.
