It's looking like he's been beaten down by trying to get results with players who are not good enough. Pearce is a shining example. A good L1 player but way out of his depth now. Last 2 home games very lucky not to have conceded stonewall penalties, and in one case it would have meant a red card, and his constant use of his arms is a liability. Then there's the lack of creativity without Williams and Gallagher. Bowyer wanted Madison but the decision was taken out of his hands, which was wrong. I don't know about his character, but his stats on assists is phenominal, and that's what we're crying out for. I said at the beginning of the season that the best we could hope for was that Bowyer would make us a stuffy team difficult to beat, grinding out enough results to keep us safe, and that still applies for me. This squad lacks good players, and good players win matches, to state the obvious.
pearce never played in league one even. it was always nabby and bauer. i think pearce is awful.. has that hot headedness about him. you can see him gearing up to go through people and it's so easy to read. i think nabby is ok at this level as long as there is someone superior next to him.
Lockyer is suspended on Saturday, so it will be Sarr & Oshilaja at the back. I will be lumping on Huddersfield.
Perhaps Bow is trying 'Hard Love' on Albie because he knows how much potential the kid has? It's a bit like Diego, he's what 24, 25? and not had a Pro Club in two years
In Albie's last game I thought he ran around like a blue-ar5ed fly trying to close the opposition down, and that he must have taken Bowyer's criticism to heart to the extent of doing nothing creative, which is where his real talent lies.
Let's not forget Bonne is a kid from the 5th tier. "One for the future" LB said. He wasn't even supposed to be more than a bit-part fringe player this season. But of course RD rogered Bowyer in the summer, and Matt Southall just rogered him in January. It ain't the youngster's fault that we're in the s**t.
I don't necessarily believe he's lost the plot, we're {the players} lacking a consistent mindset quite possibly due to no consistent team selection as we've had a conveyor belt of injuries. The leftover of Rolands s****y recruitment or lack of and lack of since.
Taking the temperature on Charlton social media since Saturday night, I’d say the fanbase is still behind Lee Bowyer, although with growing frustrations. Fewer than 5% are calling for his head at this stage. The main two criticisms of LB seem to be his tripe excuses after defeats, and more importantly his defensive tactics. Regarding the latter, I’m struggling to see what more he can do with the players at his disposal. Unless Jonny Williams is fit to play 90 min, we sorely lack a quality creative player who can take care of the ball. Oztumer shows brief glimpses, but let’s be honest, he is never going to be a classy Championship player at this stage of his career. Taylor is the mainstay - I would go as far as to say we will definitely be relegated if he gets injured again.
Exactly. As soon as any Charlton player is good enough he gets sold. LB is trying to get results with a squad of players whom other managers have rejected, that's what happens when you have the smallest budget in the division, so the idea that another manager could do better with them is wrong. I haven't changed my mind on Bowyer, and just wish he was allowed to recruit the players he wants.
When you have spend a lot of money & travelled a long way Bowyer’s away tactics can be frustrating at times. The last 3 away trips I’ve done - Middlesborough, Swansea and Stoke - probably spent getting on for £1000 and seen three stinking defeats. But I’m still behind Bowyer, because he’s got no levers to pull. The BS emanating from Matt Southall’s Twitter account is very different to the reality of the squad at LB’s disposal.
