Nigel Adkins career doesn't justify his appointment to take us forward. A friend of mine who is a Southampton supporter couldn't stand his football, regarded him in the way we regarded Russell Slade. He was then a failure at Reading and Sheffield United, and left Hull saying his future and the club's were not aligned. I'd like to see Jacko get the job with a proper contract right away, that way the players know who is boss, and he could plan for the summer as well.
I'll give anybody the benefit of the doubt if they're appointed with the best intentions. The cynical appointments of the Duchatelet/Meire era and the lies that accompanied them were contemptible. But if it's Nigel Adkins now, with the blessing of TS and GR, then so be it. Whoever it is, they'll be the first manager appointed during a new chapter in our history, a chapter of hope and looking upwards rather than decline and division. PS: According to Wiki, Adkins has won promotion from League One three times; 2007 Scunthorpe Utd (L1 champions) - we drew 1-1 with them at the Valley, in our first post-Premiership game the following season. 2009 Scunthorpe Utd (L1 play off winners) 2011 Southampton (L1 2nd place)
A big step towards Championship safety for Birmimgham City... Rotherham still have 4 games in hand on them, but are in poor form. Having a 6 point gap between them (albeit only 5 points in reality because of Rotherham's better GD) will boost morale at Brum. If Birmingham had not won matters would still look grim for them. There's a lot more work for them to do, but LB has made the best possible start. Derby, Forest and the Owls are having shockers of a season! Clubs that size should be in the top third of the Championship, not the bottom third.
TS started the process of finding a replacement 6 weeks ago. He has also been very vocal about his ambition for us to play attractive football. I think therefore that Bowyer jumped before he was pushed.
TS himself said it at the press conference, he started the process 6 weeks ago. He interviewed 6 candidates, although he didn't give the timescale for that. Some of the football we've been playing is difficult on the eye, and restoring Pratley and Watson to the midfield was maybe the last straw? And there was a freedom about our play on Tuesday which has been lacking. Personally I think Bowyer's goose was cooked since his public humiliation of Jonny Williams.
I had forgotten that Adkins got Southampton promoted twice in consecutive seasons, from 3rd tier to 1st. That is a very decent achievement. Jimmy Seed did it for us in the 1930's of course, but it doesn't happen often.
Stories coming out that Bowyer was involved with bullying, especially the young players. An agent of one of the players reported this to the PFA.
Say anything to offend the little snowflakes these days and you're labelled a bully. These kids need to grow a pair FFS.
