For me, Bowyer has now arguably surpassed Chris Powell and is the 4th best manager Charlton have ever had. Not in terms of achievement stats (Powell's two comfortable mid-season Championship finishes are something Bowyer has yet to achieve) but in terms of keeping the team going and achieving beyond what should be possible against difficult circumstances. Jimmy Seed, Lennie Lawrence and Alan Curbishley were Great Charlton managers. The only three ever to guide CAFC into the top division. But of all of them, only Lawrence faced difficulties off the pitch that were worse than those faced (any maybe still to be faced) by Lee Bowyer. For a Decade now Charlton Athletic has been owned by chancers, asset-strippers and crooks. Frankly it's a miracle the Club still exists. And yet Lee Bowyer has hauled the battered Club up from the 3rd tier, and is on the point of securing 2nd division survival - when by every measure we should be cut adrift in 24th place and already relegated. I pray the ownership issue gets resolved soon, and LB is allowed to build on all his efforts so far. A few fans don't believe he is good enough to be a Championship manager. I believe they are wrong. Given a chance, I believe Bowyer can take Charlton as far as Lennie Lawrence did. I just hope he doesn't have to do it away from the Valley.
The title of this thread hasn't aged well given what we now know about the lack of backing Bowyer received from the last pair of jokers.
This is one of the Sheriff's threads isn't it. It might be that only he has the access necessary to change the title. AHLL might have that access too perhaps? In my rut of cynicism last season (might have been around the time Donny knocked us out of the FA Cup) I started a thread called the 'Lee Bowyer sacking thread' Not one of my smarter moves
Lee Bowyer certainly got it wrong last night. Players played out of position, wrong formation and wrong subs. Completely out thought by Rowett. He is not a Championship manager.
I see recreational fishing is back again after the lockdown. Some won't be catching much though, with such inadequate tackle.
With what he’s put up with whilst at charlton and what he’s achieved I have nothing but gratitude and admiration for the fella , if he chose to go I would totally understand and wish him well he’s a top top fella
