It's times like this when you wish we'd blooded an u23 striker. Guess it's Roberts as #9 if Bamford's out. At least his goal-scoring is consistent. Consistently zero, unfortunately.

 

Fascinating game today against a very good Chelsea.

We saw some great performances and also a couple of average ones to further underline where we need strengthening the most. Personally I concluded that if we could keep that cental core of our defence through to the end of the season we'll be stonger and more solid. So Meslier, Llorente, Struijk & Phillips are not only the main men but also the future.

In comparison both full back positions are up for grabs...although Alioski recovered after a shaky start to put in a decent shift. Ayling however continues to flatter to deceive and needs serious competition for his place.

Midfield...what midfield as we don't seem to have one...Phillips apart the rest nowhere near the standard required to take on the Chelsea's of this League.

Some good stuff today from Roberts and Costa again showed he can make an impact, but another blank in the scoring charts shows we need more going forward. In theory that could and should come from having a better midfield and full backs, as Raphinha, Rodrigo and Bamford are classy enough if they have more quality around them.

Onwards and upwards to Fulham on Friday

 

Dont forget to factor in Koch too and also Cooper, so centrally we are well covered with 2 CBs who can play on the left and at least 2 ho play on the right. Within this unit you also get 2 International CBs who can play DM and I havent included Struijk as he cant really. LB and RB needed plus a real up and coming DM as well as a striker and top No8 so Klich becomes backup

 

Klich was too slow in the championship....need I go on ?
