Sad day for me and many a foxes fan (and any that loved to see skill and flamboyance) ... was my favourite player as a kid. Died aged 72. Elvis has left the building. RIP
Came across him a few times in my life when I used to chill with my mates at a Taxi base getting high(20/25 years ago)...me being football mad, I appreciated who he was...was always with his missus...cool laid back guy with plenty bantz, none of that big I am RIP
That goal he scored for Bolton back in the day, will get plenty of airtime today I reckon. Truly iconic that.
He used to drink in the hotel I collected glasses in. Bit of a local legend was Frank. Ended up owning, or part owning, a washing machine shop in a **** hole called Farnworth, weirdly. Well I say ended up, am talking 30+ years ago so **** knows what he actually ended up doing. He played and scored in the first live game I ever went to, for Bolton Wanderers as they beat us 3-0 at Burnden Park.
Always a great watch shame he failed his medical with us but at least it gave him another story for his after dinner speeches
You know how players try and run the clock down by the corner flag ... our season tickets at Filbo were between the goal and corner flag ... we'd defended a corner and the ball was headed away towards the other corner flag ... Frank chased after it and go there in front of 2 opposing players ... he pulled it back and started to juggle it ... they couldn't get to it ... he then flicked it up and volleyed it 40 yards to Lenny Glover our left winger who was on the half way line... so diagonally from the corner across the width of the pitch ... a perfect pass ...when you see things like that as a kid it is a memory that will stay with you forever...
I expect you have an excellent memory of him having played for Leicester. My football knowledge use to be pretty decent, so I had a look around google and youtube to see why Worthington never stood out to me like many players of his time. I think the reason was, he was selected for England in 1974, but they failed to qualify for the World Cup that year, and all the focus was on the Scots, and the latter stages players such as Gerd Muller & Beckenbauer. I see he also played for Tampa Bay Rowdies but that was in between the periods that Rodney Marsh was out there.
