It was sort of interesting but agree they picked a load of non controversial decisions. They picked some oblivious one that they overturned that no one can disagree with and they picked one where they messed up and everyone can see they messed up. What you want to see is those decisions where people have gone, how the **** is that not a penalty then? Pickford punching Haaland in the face on Sunday. Palace player breaking Bournemouth player nose on Saturday. Just going on liverpool ones as I remember them more. kane not being sent off v liverpool jots not getting a penalty v spurs
No, to try and make it look effective and efficient to everyone. Seems it worked on some Only our comments aren't about just the decisions against Liverpool, they're about the refereeing standards in general and the wish for more transparency, honesty and accountability.
I would have liked to heard how the discussion went on Pickford and VvD I know what was said In The aftermath I just don’t understand how that discussion could have gone
Good performance last night, took us 15-20 minutes to figure it out and get going and then we started to play some nice stuff. 10 weeks ago we just wouldn’t have figured it out and would’ve looked toothless, great to see the confidence back and the belief that we’ll get success if we keep doing the right things. Made up for Jones, seems this long stint in the team has helped him relax and he’s no longer trying too hard and it’s paying off. 3 clean sheets on the bounce, Leicester do have goals in them and I was a bit worried about balls into the channel with the pace they have, but we barely gave them a sniff
Not so much that incident alone; they'll have just said it was offside so after play had stopped (ridiculous still at that). However, review that AND the Richarlison attack on Thiago (also after but he got punished)
Defence has improved of late. Konate's been a big part of that. Was particularly impressed with us against Brentford where we tended to win most of the 2nd balls off Toney.
Total football of the Dutch '74 side. Pass and move - and move positions. No reasons nowadays wht a cb cant move into midfield, midfielders cover fullbacks, forwards cover fullbacks and midfielders. Gakpo does it instinctively - maybe because he's Dutch?
Its all about willingness to be unselfish. anyone can move anywhere if they have the intelligence but if their team mate doesn't plug the gap then its a massive issue. Its still that simple. yesterday trent even stood in when konate was up the park a bit. If you don't do it then theres gaps everywhere. And that was our issue. Robertson got to run on in the second half from LCB or whatever you call it now and we had fabinho sottd in and vvd more left. all good you still have a 5 and 5. henderson found himself at RW a few times (see first goal) salah was infield and gakpo dropping to pull thier line forward. Diaz makes a good run to stay onside and he is then found by an alisson punt. henderson being on the right allows some of the movement, the focus on trent by leicester allows alisson to stadn there and punt it at the run. faes being a total numpty allows diaz in for the header. and jones being the man free to run is found by salah who is infield. The issue with this system will be the half spaces. yesterday leicester made us figure out for 15mins what to do as they put 4 men up and trent was man marked. we basically bypassed this half pressing job they did with a long ball and they ****ed it up. we just found other channels bar trent to play though and after a while their steam dropped and trent then found more space to keep playing it simple. the issue is the half spaces imo. theres a buit of a gap between the front and back 5. the box design deliberately wants this space but its the type of space quality midfielders love. It will be interesting to see what klopp does with it next.
I think Leicester made a big mistake of sacking Brendan Rodgers and appointed Dean Smith. Perhaps they should have gone for Sam Allardyce.
I think you are right. he is actaully bothered to drop in and do the job. Perhaps he has less yards to cover in transition and this helps him get back in either to CB or RB.
He's always been a fabulous player (with some off days like everyone else) but he's playing with a real verve now as if he's been unshackled.
Article by Howard Webb on BBC today about 'behaviour towards referees not good enough'. Strangely the contents section is turned off to stop the obvious response of 'the refereeing standards is piss poor'.
If referees are doing impartial jobs no one will go for them. In this type of work there are rooms for error of judgements. Howard Webb writing this article of all people is doing my head,
I disagree... People will always go after refs that said, I don't think that's a problem. Refs do a hard job, occasionally they make mistakes. That they would be criticized for a mistake is only right and natural. Players make mistakes and they're criticized. So should refs be when. They make mistakes.
if a ref is a figure of authority and not to be crossed then they get respect. If they explain the situation and keep manners on players they get respect. There are far too many refs who turn their back and allow rants and temper tantrums. In our past two games alone we have seen numerous issues when the ref has had people having a go and just saying nothing or ignoring issues. Pawson yesterday waved off a scissors tackle from behind on gakpo when the angles showed no contact to ball at all. He just ignored everything and left players rant and scream at him. This might "get you through" but it gets no respect. If you has a reputation for putting manners on anyone getting stroppy and speaking like an adult to an adult you'd get a lot more respect. that requires giving a firm dressing down to players consistently. It requires pulling the card as early as the the tackle goes in without fear of the player doing something else stupid. the game is not 90mins to survive and dodge through. its 90mins to officiate and make a fair contest. Allowing tackle after tackle witout caution, allowing diving, squealing, moaning, badgering and timewasting and as much as teams want unitl finally some non entity of a fould triggers 2 or 3 yellows "for the report" is no good for anyone.
i wondered that as well since from MF rather than RW it is esier to either get back in RB position or drop into CB if Konate has already moved tnto RB slot
