LES FERDINAND: DUE DILIGENCE IS KEY www.qpr.co.uk. “It doesn’t matter what market you are shopping in, there is risk attached with every transfer. “But what we can do is reduce the level of that risk. We have got good scouts in place, and what we are constantly doing is carrying out our due diligence on potential signings.” Based in France, Steve Hitchen is the club’s European scout while David Magrone and Ian Butterworth work domestically. Meanwhile analyst Andy Belk has moved from first-team involvement to work full-time on the recruitment process. This is the first time the club have employed an analyst to work solely on transfer acquisition. “This demonstrates the importance we’re placing not only on player recruitment, but that process behind it,” Ferdinand said. “We are putting a system in place so we can look at, and identify, the best young talent coming up. “I have read people saying we are just trying to sign League One players. That’s not the case. We are heavily governed by Financial Fair Play, which means those are the markets we have to look in now. What we are trying to do is attract players who want to advance their careers, and see QPR as a place where they can do that. image: http://www.qpr.co.uk/cms_images/player/massimo-luongo-qpr-wolves64-2919920.jpg please log in to view this image NEW BREED: Massimo Luongo was signed from League One side Swindon Town last summer “We have signed players over the last two windows, and I have heard people questioning those signings, about whether they’re good enough. “We know that some of these players need work, need developing. That’s what we are looking to do with them, that’s the process. And we have a manager here who wants to go onto the training ground with his team of coaches and improve his players. “And having that full-time analyst in place means we can track players constantly. We know what bracket of players we’re looking at, what positions the manager wants, and our analyst spends his whole time updating the system, keeping it current. “We then look at those players and ask ourselves, ‘Are they right for Queens Park Rangers?’ in terms of ability, attitude and budget. “The harsh reality is not every single player we bring in is going to work out as we would want them to, but we will do all the groundwork we can to make sure we give ourselves the best possible chance of signing a player who is right for our football club.” Read more at http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/les-ferdinand-qpr-transfers-2980341.aspx#T8pZysmRuPDWjeVq.99
Happy to see that Les & co. are reviewing players for next season already. Getting our business done nice and early means we can enjoy a proper pre season with a full squad. Wouldn't that be a nice change! Agree with David McIntyre on this topic though, having analysts and scouts in place is the norm at most other football clubs. Shows how much of a shambles we've been in the past that we weren't up to date. Better late than never, as they say
For all those asking what does SLF do, there is a glimpse into what he gets involved in. Plus probably going to loads of matches (yes, I know tough job) getting a glimpse of prospective recruits.
Absolutely, and welcome to buying cheap players and watching them develop. Much prefer that to watching over-paid has-beens taking the piss, and not giving a **** about the club
its a real difficult one really ,in concept yes the idea is good but,to bring this to fruition we need to be on the cutting edge, our scouts have under performed, there has just not been enough top players comming in bradley dackand roofe from oxford and many others could all be bought at reasonable money but once more we are hesitating too much, god knows how many qpr fans tried to get qpr to bring in andre gray for about two million but qpr hesitated and hesitated untill such a time that he was now valued at 11 millionand thats not good and at qpr somebody should be accountable for these mistakes that are being made
Since when do fans dictate the recruitment policy of a football club ?? How do you know Gray wanted to come to QPR ?
now your talking roofe would take off the roof and to answer your origuional question since when do fans dictate the club trevor francis said that the only reason he bought sinton was he was besieged by qpr fans who kept on about how good he was we bought sinton for 350 thousand and sold him for 2-7 million both les ferdinand and andrew impy were recomomended by fans SO YEAH ITS ALWAYS BEEN THE FANS WHO CAN THROW THESE FABULOLUS IDEAS I HAD NEVER HEARD ABOUT ROOFE UNTILL THE NEWSPAPERS SAID THAT LES FERDINAND HAD WATCHED HIM FIVE TIMES SO I ASSUME HES COMMING IN THE SUMMER TO US
I honestly don't see how these two things are compatible sadly. If our budget is limited by present income then we won't be able to pay as much as bigger clubs and therefore will not be able to attract the best prospects. FFP stifles opportunity and ensure the status quo just as the big clubs planned it.
QPAAAAAGH, that is why a champion team can compete with a team of champions. Leicester being the current perfect example. Would love to see our current team playing our worst over-paid has-beens of the last four years. FFP is intended to stop clubs going on a reckless spending spree for a couple of years, and in the end destroying the club. The intention is for clubs to be based on sustainable basis. A club with 50k turnout every week, should be able to afford more expensive players than one with 17k a week
1 player, versus how many we have bought in the mean time, in a time long ago. SLF watches loads of players loads of times, so you ASSUME we will buy every single one ? and will never be out-bid by another team in the mean time ? or that he evens wants to come to QPR, because you like him ??? or we wont find a better prospect for the same position in the mean time ???
