They should learn the lesson. it has to be competitive.

At minimum they should have brought an entirely different 11 to it but you don't go away to australia with b and c listers either.

stokes, root and anderson were at the last F1 race on their way to next test series.

England cricket should have been home after final to soak in as much free publicity and touring round of trophy as possible before the blood cup distracted everyone.

As it stands now the T20 world cup win... forgotten.

    good news everyone.

Stuart Broad is no longer the worst bowler in the history of cricket, seriously though i'm sure some of us can remebr a thn young brad running in and getting absolutely destroyed in an odi for 6 after six.

Offically the record for getting whacked over the boundary was 6 6s off one over plus a 4 and a single (that really sounds like rank bowling TBF

But step forward Shiva Singh. 7 sixes off his bowling in on ODI game.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/63778466

embaressing frankly. At least chuck it at the guys head like.

    The start was remarkable.

    Pope 104 NO
    Brook 85 NO

thats 85 from 65 btw. if he gets 100 in 75 is fastest ever century for england according to beeb.

ppoe goes and brooks misse sout by a ball at least on fastest ever century.

its an ODI game. keep hitting and don't slow down. 3 centuries so far and stokes at the wicket.

I’m going to assume the pitch is like a road but that is some serious scoring by England. Not just slogs either, lots of proper cricket shots.

Poor root, sitting there wondering how he’s missed out on yet another ton I bet!

Go get a huge score tomorrow and then just put pressure on Pakistan batters. England won’t get a bad score but if Pakistan end up 400-3 then it puts a lot of it into context.

Good for Crawley, pope, duckett and brooks to get some runs and confidence though.

Think Stokes has seen Brooks get close and fancies a go at this quickest 100 record.

    looks over.

    506/4 after only 75overs

that's a very low over rate but i suppose the pakistan team had a lot of chasing to bring the ball back <whistle>

looks like pakistan went away overnight and had a think while england went away overnight and had a party.

all out for 657 for england.

Pakistan first innings beginning. Its all about wearing out the pitch here.

Pakistan performance putting our batting into context. Obviously very impressive, but wicket is giving absolutely nothing to the bowlers and has a massive draw written all over it already.

Unless the pitch dramatically deteriorates over next day or so that is.

all pakistan are doing is making this a draw.

they couldn't get into us but our boys throw the bat at ball today and got out relatively quickly in the tail. the experiments with lawrence coming into test cricket and basically doing nothing with bat for example.

When you have 650 score you do just slash away really.

Pakistan are scoring at a good test cricket run rate. 3 and over. no issue. So they will do this for 2 days min before putting us back in and the test will time out (most likely barring us collapsing totally)

This is the difference in philosophy with the "bazball" and actual positive test cricket. If you play to close yer eyes and swing away like its odi or t20 you will eventually get found out, but when it goes your way you look a hero.

Its pretty clear to me that at this point people have not been willing to bring more of the T20 bowling techniques into this arena for fear of being smashed all over the park.

bowlers should be licking their chops over this all out attack posture. they can do far far more with the ball in test cricket so they really ought to be looking more at raw pace, pace variation and crowding the batter if he is on the attack.

England are not even showing this positivity, they are assuming saides will play like a test side so are just setting attacking fields but using test bowling lines.

Not sure what to make of England performance here. 80 ahead, did well to bowl them out.

Problem is, now piling on big runs I guess in order to force a result. 342 ahead with 3 wickets remaining. Could easily set a total of 350 if lose these wickets quickly which normally be fine, but on this pitch could be chased.

Problem with these quick runs as well, bowlers aren’t getting an awful lot of rest. Just bowled for 155 overs. So far had a 35 over rest, could be about 40 overs before having to go back out there to bowl them out.

Strange one that. I guess spinners are going to do most of the bowling so hopefully they didn’t need too much rest.

if Pakistan bay normally they could get those runs. 4 th innings pressure if they lose couple early wickets though.

Fair play to England to at least trying to force a result. After day 3 thought wa just petering out to a draw but they’ve accelerated the game and will hopefully give day 5 audience a decent showing.

    13-0 after 8 balls

but yeah fair play to England for at least trying to force a positive result one way or the other .
