In our 20’s five of us going on our regular run in the old town said let’s try the marina for a change, walking past this old looking pub called the Oberon so we walked in, thought have one and let’s ago, someone gets on the piano(Wendy I think) everyone starts singing, we wonder what’s going on, regulars laughing because we are in there but so friendly, ended up been in there TIL closing time then stagged to waterfront, great night.

I knew Wendy really well ( not that well if you know what I mean ) I worked on the norland at the same time, her and francis were a right pair, really funny. The night Pat Phoenix ( Elsie Tanner ) was in our crew bar, Wendy was well on form.

I'm having a little £5 on anytime, in all of our 3 (hopefully last games of the season!)...think if we avoid defeat tomorrow we're up...but would love top spot for the first time at the end of the season since 1966 (& we all know what happened to the national team a couple of months later)...let's do again ...pretty, pretty please

You'll probably know my old next door neighbour Reg Kemp, who wrote a cracking book about the Norland during the Falklands war.

I was, indeed, in the seventies for a time I lived in Sutton, and coming from the fish dock I used to give a colleague who also lived in Sutton and lift home, we generally stopped for a pint on the way home.

"City are winning 4-0.... we get a penalty in the last minute... nearly everyone has backed Greaves to score anytime at 18 or 19/1... he wants to take it..... Wilks snatches it off him"....<laugh>

I knew a cook on the norland called kemp, cannot remember his first name but we all called him kempy. You would not believe what went on aboard that ship, 7 of the greatest years of my life lol.

I can believe it mate. I've heard loads of stories. Reg was a steward, and or night manager, whatever that meant. His book 'First In, Last Out' think that's the title, details his memories of going down to the South Atlantic in 1982.

    That’ll do.

Assuming Greaves is fit of course.

Used to prefer the Norland and Norwave in many ways to the larger, later ones. Got a couple of free trips every year working in a shipping office where we got a card giving us free drinks for the duration both ways. Carnage.<laugh>
Bloke in my local in Brid called Gus worked on them and with NSF up to retirement. Used to sort out the cabins. He had some great tales to tell.

Can you remember what year his was on them ?
I was 82 literally days before the Falklands was called up to 89. Carnage is the perfect word lol.
