It's that time of the year again where Liverpool reserves get the chance to take on the first team in an audition to try win a place in the squad for next year. In previous years, strong showing from Lovren, Lallana, Lambert, Clyne, Mane & more recently VVD have seen them promoted to the first team. Some have bene more successful than others but the ability to gain first team Prem football before they step up to the first team has been invaluable for many of these players. There area few who are close and will be hoping a good performance will convince Klopp to promote in the summer, maidly Bertrand & Lemina. Before this link up was formed, Liverpool Reserves were actually their own team, once called Southampton. They actually played each other a number of times throughout history with LFC winning 52 of the 107 meetings, only losing 30. Despite LFC first team winning the previous meeting in the season 3-0, you have to go back 6 games before that for their last win, with the reserves clearly very motivated to put in good performances against their first team to secure 3 wins and 2 draws. With so many reserve players promoted over the last few years it has had a detrimental effect to the reserves who are currently just outside the relegation zone, with only 1 win in their last 13 games, that being their last game v WBA. Has the form turned or was that an anomaly? Remains to be seen.
We’re ****, and you should win, but we’re slightly less **** against good teams. You’re good, and you should win, but you’re somewhat less good against **** teams. So 1-1.
stats don't agree we score 2.6 goals per game v lower half and concede only 0.86 so... you will have to do slightly better than "less ****" Hope its a good game.
Lemina is class. Ward-Prowse has really come on this year. If Boufal is allowed to play he can cause problems for anyone. Tadic is hit and miss. Hojbjerg is all energy. Suspect the team will be along the lines of - McCarthy Cedric Stephens Hoedt Bertrand Romeu Lemina Ward-Prowse Tadic Boufal Carrillo Well, that's what it should be. You never can tell with Pellegrino. He may go more defensive and bring in Hojbjerg for someone like Boufal and stick Tadic on the left.
Tricky match I think. Southampton are the sort of the team which we don't like playing against. (explains why we keep looking to buy their players). Also as the OP, their players may think this is an audition in front of the LFC manager. "If I dominate my direct opponent, I'll get a sure bid from LFC " If they start well and maintain their form, we could be in trouble. A draw is really not good enough with Chelsea and Spurs in the hunt.
