I kind of agree but this is my theory ...

I think we are talking about 2 different kinds of offence, Impeding play and Reckless or dangerous play

    Outside the area ...
If a player goes to shoot and is impeded it's a free kick as it impeded play
If a player shoots and is then tackled then it didn't impede play so no action
If a player shoots and is then fouled then a free kick is awarded if its considered dangerous

    In the area ...
If a player goes to shoot and is impeded it's a pen as it impeded play
If a player shoots and is then tackled then it didn't impede play so no action
If a player shoots and is then fouled then a pen is awarded if its considered dangerous

So I'm saying Sterling kicked the ball away so it didn't impede play and it wasn't dangerous in any way

But I find the detail of the Laws confusing at times

I have to say that it wasn't too disruptive on Saturday bar their penalty review which is why I haven't whinged about it and the decisions much.

No chance any of the them would have affected the outcome either imo, they're just far too good and despite how good we were in the first half they always had another gear.

I posted that last night. Really ****ed me off - sick of our club being so kind and welcoming to the opposition.

Certainly shows how little they care about the support. Shameful.

Between that, the pitiful away allocations, away fans welcomed in the home end & the whole tottenham ticketing fiasco ... without a doubt it shows how little they care for the traditional saints home fans.

Think it's our £10 tickets compared to their full price ones.

Thinking about it though, in the cup aren't the gate receipts split 50/50. I am sure i read that somewhere? SO we will gain some £££ from tonight...or have I as usual got it totally wrong?

I think the grievance is that their fans had to pay £10 and in return ours pay £25...

Even if the clubs somehow earn the same it doesnt stop our fans being out of pocket compared to theirs.

However, if it is the case, their ground holds more and charges more so win win.

You are correct. Incidentally, one of the decisions that predated the formation of the Premier League was that only a few seasons before the First Division voted for home teams to keep all of the receipts, whereas prior to that, even home league games were split 50/50. Hence teams with smaller grounds could be more competitive. One of the reasons why it all went skewed after that.
But yeah, the FA Cup remains a 50/50 split.
