It will allow the vikings to sail in and clobber us. no seriously just what exact freight can be landed in it that cannot be landed anywhere else in UK?
It's not about landing freight that can't be handled down south, it's more about logistics, although the deep water allows bigger ships so will be able to accommodate 95% of the world’s fleet of container vessel types. Over half of the UK population are located within a 150 mile radius of the Port of Liverpool which offers significant advantages for importers looking to reach the manufacturing and consumption heartland of the UK more directly than southern based ports. There's also a density of warehousing not only in Liverpool but in the North West in general. Couple that warehousing space with 10 motorways within 10 miles of the port and very few other terminal operators in the UK can compete with that level of connectivity and multimodal transport links.
Is there any case for manufacturing withing the Area? I have been in duisburg in Germany and they land stuff direct at manufacturing plant for assembly.
I don't think so it's more a terminal. I get what you mean though, say the Jaguar plant was located there and not in Speke, imported car parts could be unloaded and go directly to the car manufacturer. There's a lot of space there waiting to be developed so it could happen.
