never been to Malta. What's it like? People are supposed to be friendly, I'm told. 3-0 to us and our march to winning the WC again rolls on.
Malta's nice. This is gonna be a boring match. England are average, and Malta are minnows. Even if we score loads, it's not gonna be great viewing. Hope Harry plays though. Might give it a chance if he starts.
Nice place, went there 10 years ago, really enjoyed it. I had a customer there buying Mackerel as feed for the Tuna farming.
Most bombed place on earth in WW2. Before someone tries to be pedantic, other places were more badly damaged but that involved artillery and explosives as well as bombing. My old man was on a destroyer which was sunk escorting a convoy to Malta, a disastrous enterprise. Later entered Malta on a naval ocean going tug who the siege had been lifted. Said the suffering of the people there was terrible. Added that as someone who had never been in a pub or even outside of Yorkshire when he joined up at 17 places like The Gut in Malta a couple of years later were quite an experience. He returned years later for a month when he retired and really enjoyed it.
Joe Hart will start in goal for England's World Cup qualifier against Malta in Attard on Friday. "I believe he's our best goalkeeper at the moment," manager Gareth Southgate said. giggle
Years ago a lot of Maltese supposedly drove at an awkward angle on the edge of the driving seat as they believed God was next to them. Didn't make for safe driving. Knew someone who worked there for a while in the late 1960s. He said any complaint of something going wrong or not working was always explained away by a shrug of tge shoulders and a resigned "But this is Malta...". He loved it there. Unfortunately it is probably less idiosyncratic and more like everywhere else nowadays,
What's that say for the rest??...Okay, Butland is overrated, Forster can drop the odd bollock, but what about Heaton?....Oh, he plays for a unfashionable northern club...Therefore no chance. He'll have to transfer to one of the southern darlings to get a game.
And he was going to stick with Rooney until he stepped aside , another manager doing the same old ****e - bring on the World Cup -
Would've liked to see Pickford play had he not been injured but seen as he is I would rather Butland play, think he's a better keeper than Hart.
