was worried it will be one of those days especially after missing the penalty .. good performance overall
There is some real fear on the scouser and spud boards, We haven't played well at all We haven't had any opposition Our wins are down to refs being bent as **** blah blah blah It's really quite funny once you get past the bitterness
Decent game. Better in the first half than the second but the goals came eventually. Atmosphere was better than it has been for a while. Fans starting to believe.
Total domination and Leicester like many other teams coming to OT put 11 men behind the ball. They took their chances by having 9 men camped in the penalty area. The only disappointment for me was the penalty miss by Lukaku. He would have been deflated somewhat and the obvious problem that JM faces now is who will be our pen taker. Mata or Pogba? We need someone with a cool head. But what was good was how bringing Rashford and Fellaini had the immediate impact and changed the course of the game. Our next big match is Stoke away. A test again of our attack against mass defending and our defending against long balls.
With 10 goals scored in 3 games everyone is looking at the attack, I would just like to take a second to say Jones has been a total rock in defence in the opening games, I just hope the lad can stay fit because with him alongside Bailly we look very solid.
A really good start to the season. Teams watching us will mostly set up to defend as they've seen our pacy counter attacking threat, but our defence has looked so solid so we're in a good space. The minute we get the first goal of a match we're in the pound seats as teams know that they have to attack but are vulnerable then, which is typical of a Mourinho team... I've been impressed by our attacking play, having both Mata and Mkhi in the 11 gives us a lot of creativity, and with Pogba getting forward a lot more we've got plenty of pace getting forward (Lukaku is also a big difference in that respect compared to last year)
A solid defence is key to the system we play. We always have lots of possession and if the defence is not solid we are vulnerable to the counterattack and to the sucker punch, to the odd corner or other set pieces. The attack feel more confident to take chances, and losing the ball need not be a disaster. Anyone remember LVG 's principle that possession is all? Losing the ball was a crime because the defence was vulnerable to a counter. We need to keep a settled CB pair over most of the season. Jones and Bailly are both aggressive and quick. Exactly the sort of defenders we need against the fast strikers running on to long balls.
Lindelof will have to do a lot of work to establish himself - especially since your best CM pair last season was Rojo and Jones imo.
Definitely agree with these statements. For a team that scored 5 goals in the first two games, I think Leicester was a true test than most rivals would acknowledge. I said before the match that I would take a clean sheet and couple of goals which turned out to be the case. Let's hope we carry this into Stoke. Start winning against the "smaller" teams and take the match to the big guns without pressure when the time comes.
guess teams will sit back deep more against us this season .. they seem really scared of us .. which is a good sign of old UTD we need though to practice more on how we break up such teams with this defensive setup.
