Every manager makes mistakes. It's about learning from them now. He's learning more and more about his players, and after Mata's game at West Ham I'm sure he's realised he needs to play him there. Rooney and RVP are also both sick notes, so the chances of all 3 being fit at the same time isn't that high
One of them is surely off in the Summer. There's no way any professional football manager could sign Mata and be retarded enough to play him wide. Arguably the best number 10 in the league but sheer mediocrity out wide.
Not at this time of night after a late six-a-side game, no. Like you or loathe you, Matth, no one can deny that your posts are fascinating in their own way.
He has played out wide in the past and done well in that position, so not as daft as your trying to imply! If you watched him in his Valencia days you would know this
You think playing out wide in a 4-4-2 is the same as playing in a 4-3-3? He CAN play out wide but the system has to suit him.
I think you can get away with it against weaker sides, or if the central midfielders are better. Take David Silva and Nasri for City, both of those players are similar to Mata, particularly Silva, and they can play wide yet don't track back to much. They are not proper wingers either, they drift in a lot. So a 442 with players like Mata in wide positions can work, as City have shown this season
Please show me where Moyes said he bought him to play number 10? We have Rooney, and RVP, and Mata will only play that position when one is injured. Perhaps RVP is off in the summer who knows, though as I've already pointed out, both regularly have injury problems, so Moyes probably bought Mata knowing he will come in handy when RVP and Rooney have there usual injury every few weeks
That's the point I was making, you can play Mata wide against the weaker sides, as they won't expose Carrick and Fellaini, but if your gonna play Mata wide against the top sides, you need 2 midfielders like Fernandinho and Toure. So it was a big tactical error from Moyes to play him wide in the Liverpool game, though you don't know it won't work until you try it, so I can't see him trying that again
