5K is ridiculous lol, some league one players are on better money and the lad has done enough to show he has a future here. £15-20k for a young player in the EPL sounds reasonable with add on's to take him to £25k would be about right for me. Scott Mctominay at United is on £60k p/w, Abrahams is on £50k and about to be offered a double your money deal. Not that I think Matty should be in line with them but £15-25 is not unreasonable for a young lad who is out 2nd/3rd top scorer if I'm not mistaken?
5k is far too low. I know for a fact a few years ago some Tranmere Rovers players were on 4k. If he thinks he can get 25k a week he can have a pop. I don't judge anyone for trying to make more money honestly, everyone does it. I'd say at his current level of ability I wouldn't pay him it. If he turns out to be another bench warmer we are stuck with him paying him a high wage, we have a lot of them lads already. If he wants to go and try and get it elsewhere he can go free agent. But no one came in for him in Jan, and he won't do himself any favours being a free agent.
So he's greedy to ask £25k because that's too much for him, but that's his value in the current market, so we have to hold our nose and pay it?
there are already european clubs after him... he can only currently speak with euro clubs... hence no british clubs could in jan
Players are like houses. They have little inherent worth. Their value is what people will pay for them. A premiership player will be paid more than £5k a week and therefore is worth more than £5k a week. Trying to say otherwise is like saying that I know people will pay £200k for a house but I think it is only "worth" £40k
ML is worth whatever someone is willing to pay him. What Pouchy, I think, is trying to say is that in moral terms he’s not worth £25K pw. A point I agree with. If the market, however is prepared to pay him £25K pw then that’s what he’s worth.
Don't think he saying that at all. He's not a 25k a week player. He's played not even half a season. He's not a regular.
So you’re saying Pouchy doesn’t have any morals? Hmmm, can’t say I disagree with that, but if he’s not saying what i said then he’s not growing and learning sadly.
It isn't his value in the current market. Its his value to certain clubs in the current market. The market is far larger than Liverpool, Arsenal, Man C, Man U, Chelsea and Spurs. Is he greedy? I don't know what involvement he has. Its far more likely that his agent is dealing with it all, using his contractual situation to get him overpaid. Common practice in football. I just don't think we have the luxury to get too pious about the whole thing. We are in a weak position. I also don't agree with the notion that your value is what someone is willing to pay you. Its nonsense to me as you could ask all 20 PL clubs what is Longstaffs value to them, what would they pay him. I think the vast majority would say he's worth less than 25K. But because you have 6 or 7 clubs that can be a blaise about money, that's his value? Whether inflated or not? I think its hilarious that agents have managed to dupe so many people into thinking this way.
Correct. Market value literally just means the amount for which something can be bought or sold on a market. If we see him as being worth less and another club offers him more then his market value is higher. Doesn't matter about average valuations, he isn't a commodity, there's only one of him so it's whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay. If people don't like it then complain about capitalism rather than football. Thorsten Veblen would certainly have strong, and I suspect correct, opinions about it.
