Without a shadow of a doubt. The goals return from our other strikers and our midfield players was woeful. We need to be looking at creative AND goal scoring midfielders/strikers. AOB, for example, was good at moving defences around and creating space for Wyke, but his goals per game ratio was awful. Peterborough had Clarke-Harris and Szmodics, Blackpool had Simms and Yates, Hull had Wilkes, Magennis and Lewis-Potter. All of our strikers and attacking midfielders have to get their fair share of goals.
Would’ve liked to see more of Stewart l looks a better footballer all round. Certainly a lot quicker and a good 1v1 finisher. But I don’t think him and Wyke could play as a pair
I think the problem of this lack of goals from other areas goes back further than this season. I was thinking this back in the days of Bent ant Gyan . I counted at one point, during a run of 55 games, after taking out Bent, Gyan and own goals, there were only 7 games where a midfielder or defender scored. Since, there have been just so many times I've wondered if midfielders know that the rules do allow for them to score.
I agree. I don't think they could play as a pair. No doubt we'll see more of Stewart next season, and let's hope he develops into a decent player. We need more than him to get a hat full of goals mind.
Him signing a new contract can’t be true, our fans said he was a bully and had a negative impact on the squad.
I hope we're not totally reliant on McGeady to supply the ammunition for Stewart either. We need other options.
If someone can work with Gooch on his decision making, he could be just as effective as McGeady in creating chances
Gooch is maddening at times but he did register 9 assists last season and got double figures the seasons before.
He has but its pretty vague. Even the Echo are reporting we are close to agreeing terms. Which will be great news. An announcement of his new contract today will really kick start our summer and go a long way to attracting players. I reckon it will have a positive effect on O’Nien and Hume in their contract decisions as well (Wyke long gone)
