NEW SEASON FUXTURE LIST .. Evo Stik Premier League North LOOKING FOWARD TO THE GAMES V WHITBY , NORTH FERRIBY UNITED AND SOUTH SHIELDS THE MOST Adults £10 16 - 11 £5 Over 65 £5 Under 11 free
Never been the same since Butlins packed up, fond days for me Filey is ok seadog, but like a lot of the East Coast, lost its way when foreign travel became cheaper.
Mention of South Shields takes me back. Went to Brid Town's first ever game as a 9 year old in 1959 when they changed their name from Central United (don't know if the name shortening was to attract new sponsors or if tbe owners thought Central United was common and lousy). First season they won promotion as runners up. Second season got to first round of the FA Cup by beating South Shields 5-3, unexpected as they were from a higher league. It was my first experience of football fever. Largest crowd I have ever seen at Queensgate though one against Scarborough in the Cup qualifiers a couple of years lateris supposed to be the record. Didn't get to the first round again for over 40 years when Ken Richardson was throwing money at them. In those days Town played in black and amber. Unfortunately now it is a common red kit Some of us were discussing that Brid Town team from 1961. We can't remember who played in games for City played 3 or 4 seasons ago, or all of the Town team which won the FA Vase at Wembley, but we could all remember that team from 1961. Hope you carry on having a good one and enjoying your football (even though they are North Yorkshire bastards).
Yes, 12,000 out, 12,000 in on a Saturday. Those were the days. Was making £8-£12 in tips in 1964 for 6 hours case carrying on a Saturday when you, could see the Stones and Beatles for the equivalent of 35p. Hell of a shock when I left school 3 years later and was earning £6.50 a week. An even, worse shock when they started knocking off 41% of it in tax.
Ooohhh tell me more! I’m always looking for less populated places to take the dogs! We went to Mrs Bishops Doggy Delhi in Filey last weeks. The dogs were very impressed. Very cheap too
Scarborough Athletic v Spennymoor Town tomorrow Kick off 2pm Barchullona Went to Gresley v Brid in a cup game a number of years ago... Lots of fights and pitch invasions by the home fans but the seaside mafia had the better of Gresley bunch Don't even know how I ended up going to the game
