Middlesbrough v Swansea City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Date - 22 September 2018 Kick Off - 3pm Venue - Riverside Stadium Following their hard fought defeat at the Bet365 Stadium against Stoke, next up for Graham Potter’s Swans is an even more challenging away fixture - a trip to promotion favourites Middlesbrough. Against Stoke, Joe Allen's disputed goal saw Stoke claim their second league win of the season and meant that Swansea lost for the second time in the league this season. Benik Afobe appeared to be off-side when the ball rebounded off him, but the Swans waited in vain for a flag as former Swan Allen lashed home. Stoke should have led before then, with Afobe and Tom Ince in particular guilty of glaring misses for the home side. Swansea responded strongly and Jack Butland produced smart saves to deny both Daniel James and Oli McBurnie. Middlesbrough recovered from their first loss of the season to beat Bolton and go second in the Championship. Bolton’s resistance was broken when a defensive mix-up allowed George Saville to sidefoot the dominant hosts ahead. Bolton improved after the break but rarely threatened and substitute Britt Assombalonga sealed victory late on. The Swans and Boro have met on 44 occasions, with the Swans winning 15, Boro 19 and 10 matches drawn. Arguably the most memorable match between the two sides took place on 3 January 1981 - as Max would say ‘I know coz I was there’ - when Boro ran out 0-5 winners at The Vetch in a 3rd Round FA Cup Match. What was remarkable was that in many respects the Swans were the better side that day, but Boro were clinical and took their chances.... Turning to Saturday, I’m hoping that Potter’s Army can get a point, but I’m expecting a defeat by 2 goals.
What's the point even guessing... the ****s have sucked all the joy out of it for me. Ok, trying to be positive I'll say 1 - 0. Yes, that was me being positive!
Hard fought 0-0 unless Mc B can regain his scoring chances again and Monty plays the full 90 minutes, We should have beaten stoke quite comfortable if we had a prolific striker like in the mold of Trundle who could score from anywhere.....We have missed someone like that for years and there has to be someone like him in the lower / non league somewhere. Apart from that the team whoever potts puts out looks good.....
Firstly, credit must go to the travelling Jacks making the journey up to the north-east on Saturday. An early start and a long journey await....for what? With so many changes and injuries it is almost impossible to name a starting eleven. It could be a similar type of game to Stoke with the Swans playing some good football but ultimately being overcome by power. I can't see 'Boro being as wasteful as Stoke and I'm giving the Swans a goal for endeavour. Boro 3 Swans 1
Our defence has been excellent so far as 3 goals is hardly likely against us.....We are as good if not better football wise against anyone and only if we had a good consistent striker we would be a good team.....We are showing we are a hard team to beat and score against us and i think it will be stalemate and who knows we may have a bit of luck and nick a goal.....
QPR won again tonight. They are only 2 points behind us, and could well be above us when we meet them. They’ve had 3 wins and a draw in their last 4 games. We’ve had 1 win in the last 5. They will fancy picking up all 3 points.
Stoke should have scored four. We were lucky, just as we were against Sheffield Utd, Birmingham and Forest.
