Never said he would, just saying he'd be mad to sign a further contract, thats if one was even on the cards.
I think he’s showed up really well in that wing back role and grown in confidence. Definitely needs keeping.
Definitely give him a 2-3 year deal. There’s a player in there and with the right setup he could be a dangerous player for us. Sort the midfield out (CM) and have at least 50% possession and he will bomb up and down the wing all day long. His delivery is improving. He’s not scared to take players on. He can also strike a ball.
Yes he’s definitely improved. I wonder whether it’s a confidence thing. No crowd. No pressure. Maybe he’s just a meter developer who knows. It is the right call.
Sell him for me. Strike while the iron is hot. He's bang average and very limited. A few good appearances doesn't fool me. He deserved to play and did well. Doesn't change he is very limited however.
Bang average and very limited makes him one of our most valuable players. It would be mad to sell him when we have so many other positions that need attention. I like him - he is growing into the right wingback role and provides us with a much needed bit of positivity from the back.
Think we will live to regret it personally. We will never get a better chance to recoup most of the fee we paid. Been here so many times with players having fleeting spells. You just have to assess the player not the form in my opinion. For sure players can improve but I think if you put him up for sale tomorrow, you'd probably get 5-10m, still a loss but one easier to bear. I don't think you'd see anyone interested outside of the championship and bottom end PL sides. That's pretty telling in my book.
As his contract is up he can just walk away, so he's currently worth nothing. We can't sell him unless he signs a new contract and becomes an asset again. He's probably negotiated a decent salary rise on the back of it. Get him to sign and then sell.
His contract runs until 2022 Also no problem signing him up and then selling him. Either way we need to shift him on provided replacements are to be signed. Might as well try to get players good enough for a top 10-12. He isn't.
For some reason I had us down as 13th hence me aiming for 10th-12th. Ok well if we wanna finish 10th or 11th we need better players than Jacob Murphy. You'll note I don't move the needle up over, I don't believe any further progress can be made under this owner unless we have a great batch of youngsters one year. I guarantee if we keep Murphy I'll be reminding all and sundry in years to come about the time we should have got rid - another albatross round our neck we can't get shot of. He's just not good enough in my eyes. Even though he did well for a short spell in the 2nd half of last season, its against a backdrop of being **** the rest of the time, and even failing to impress in the league below. What also must be factored in is he still threw in some shockers in his short good spell. I think this is a classic case of Mike succeeding in dulling the expectation of our fans. Jacob Murphy is good enough for Newcastle. He ****ing isn't.
