I watched it this morning, it's very interesting, but didn't make me want to be a vegan. I've recently watched Fargo, which is excellent, Unbelieveable, which is also very good, The Devil Next Door, which dragged on a bit and The Laundromat, which was watchable, but tried slightly too hard to be weird. Just started watching Who Killed Little Gregory, which looks to be an interesting, if rather distressing, story.
Given the whole series to watch on DVD's by a friend. Took me about a month but really enjoyed the series and coincidentally I am returning them today.
Just finished watching " The Irishman", a crime epic by Scorsese with Al Pacino and De Nero. It is 3 and a half hours long and immediately after the the credits is followed by a near half hour discussion by Scorsese and the 3 main characters about aspects of the film. Brilliant! The best Netflix programme I have seen in ages.
A crime epic by Scorcese featuring Pacino, De Niro, Pesci, Keitel et al. Boxes well and truly ticked but will save for the upcoming season.
Irishman is a cracking film that evokes classic Scorsese, and is a nice return to the genre for him and the cast. Bit long, like. Glad it was a Netflix film as I could pause it.
Watched the first 90 minutes last night MrsBMB up to the assassination of JFK. Totally agree with you. Absolutely brilliant...De Niro, Pacino etc are perfectly suited for their roles. A spellbinding production. Certainly opened my eyes to the political background of that eras events and Hoffas role. I'll be watching the second half this evening. Very strongly recommended.
Sounds like a good watch. It's just as well De Niro is a great actor because he's coming across as a right ****er in real life these days.
Just about to watch The Irishman was put off by 3.5 hours, thought I’d check here first to see if any reviews , was hoping you’d say it’s **** to put me off
the Irishman I started watching it without realising it was 3.5 hours long Finished watching it without realising it had been on for 3.5 hours Excellent film
They reckon it's nailed on for the Best actor and supporting actor Oscars. All three seemed to have brought there best for the film, brilliant.
I know he must have auto-enraged some gammon folk by being formerly married to Diahnne Abbott, but what else has he been up to?
https://www.newsweek.com/robert-de-niro-sexual-harassment-lawsuit-1462998 Plus no matter your views on Trump, De Niro acts like a complete bore every chance he gets to mention Trump and what he'd like to do to him, really quite pathetic.
Why would anyone care though , he's an actor. I thought the Irishman was very good , much better than I expected
If he expressed similar views about Obama and other media darlings and favourites of the luvvies he would be showered with abuse. True why should anyone care about what an actor thinks. Or pop stars. Their views are no more relevant than a shop assistant or a factory worker. Yet they are given a platform for their inane views.
Excellent point. Although, I do believe they should use their undeserved but apparent influence for the social good. Actual evidence, critical thought and sound academic argument needs, more than ever, to be brought to the forefront: but we have a media with little interest in such.
Trouble is, in most instances, they use their position to spout ill-informed nonsense, made worse in most cases by hypocrisy and a Do As I Say Not As I Do approach. Critical thought and sound academic argument tends to be, for most people, what coincides with their thoughts on things.
That can be the case, but if people are using sound evidence and using it properly, differences of opinion can be enhancing. I am happy to be wrong – as long as I am countered with relevant and sound argument and evidence. I learn from it. I feel fortunate in this way though, as this does not appear to be universal. It’s when people subvert evidence, or use cheap sloganeering instead of thorough argument is when it is a problem.
