Same , didn't he do a decent job with Bristol city in lower leagues but struggled in championship . Thought he was more of a number 2 these days
Made his name at Cheltenham late 90's early 00's. I remember when we hammered them (might have been 5-1) at BP during Brian little's tenure and Cotterill came out with a remark that he wouldn't swap a single player of ours for one of theirs. At the time I thought what an arrogant no-nowt tosser, as we looked like real promotion material at the time. Come the end of the season, Cheltenham went up automatically and we languished mid-table after a miserable second half of the season. He obviously did know what he was talking about and it turned out I was the no-nowt tosser
I remember that and was just talking about it this morning, didn't we reach the play-offs that season though?
The play-off season 2000/01 was the one before that Cheltenham game. The night we lost to Leyton Orient in the play-offs was the same night John Prescott chinned the guy in the General Election campaign. Strange how things stick in the mind !
Used to love the away games with them. Really close to the pitch for battles between Sarge and their big centre forwards
Their owners really have ****ed things up, got rid or Rowlett who was doing a good job, appointed Zola, then Rednapp & now Cotterill. You sort of see I recline is box office name managers.
Is that the season when Alexander had 21 goals at Xmas and looked set to smash records, and finished on 22/23 .. ha
Yep that's the one. Very much a Jekyll & Hide team. We got thumped 3-0 at Kidderminster that season which of course has a connection to the manager that replaced Little in April-ish 2002
He was in charge at Burnley when we used to beat them home & away when we went up in ‘08, if memory serves!
