Umlaut is vowel ‘mutation’. Usually a vowel in an unstressed syllable mutates the vowel in a stressed syllable. Most Germanic languages have it, including English. It’s why the plural of ‘foot’ is ‘feet’, not *foots, because at some point in history, probably before 500 AD, the plural had an /i/ in a second syllable that has since been syncopated. Singular *fōt vs plural *fōti > *fø̄t > fēt
I guess my point is that we are debating how well he did at an Uzbekistan Super League team 10 years into his management career…I don’t think this is even the pond we should be fishing in to find a manager to safeguard our Championship status.
If only we had Google back in our schooldays... Saw a documentary the other week which mentioned the Fuehrer and Goering both with an umlaut instead of Fuher and Goring with one.
Well it’s a fairish point I suppose but could you not make the same argument about David Wagner before Huddersfield appointed him? 4 seasons at Dortmund’s B team.
I suppose my biggest concern is the friendship. If Shota is doing a terrible job by mid-January, do we sack him and make a big effort to stay up, or go down with him and end up with McCann mk II where he is untouchable? Could get Acun off to a bad start with the supporters.
The new owners obviously have confidence in him to be able to fulfill the role he is being appointed for.
Maybe, but it’s a different matter compared to pooh-pooh’ing the guy’s managerial record; especially at his last club. Even when he came in halfway through the season in 2017 he W11 D2 L2 compared to his predecessors record of W3 D6 L5. They’ve won the title the last two seasons granted but could that have anything to do with the groundwork he laid down?
I just think it’s a huge risk. If Wilder, Farke or even Bruce were the ones we went for at least they have experience and success already at the level we are at.
In 2019 his record was W30 D5 L3 btw. Impressive in any league in my opinion. Won the league by 20 points! W29 D4 L5 in 2020 too. “Only” won by 12 points that season though
