Try Googling ‘World Football Leagues Ranking’ to see how strong the Uzbekistan League is. If you can’t be bothered…Turkey is ranked as the 10th strongest, Israel 29th - Uzbekistan doesn’t feature - it got to 73 with Bolivia. The rest are lumped in at 74+. The Championship is ranked 22nd. So I wouldn’t hang your hat on his achievements in a league San Marino would walk. Based on the leagues he’s been managing in it’s definitely been a downward spiral.
He actually won the league in 2018 as well lol, but looks like it was Rugby League style only without the "shield" to show for it. In the playoffs they went W6 D2 L2 and finished 2nd
The point is he still won the league though? I mean earlier you were banging on about how they won 14 of the last 28 but he only won 1 of 3 there (which was proven to be bollocks) you can't have it both ways surely.
Found out later my old German teacher had been parachuted into Germany. This was due to his knowledge of and ability to speak regional accents. Apparently he was still bound by the official secrets act which pissed him off as lot of books were being written by ex service people in the 1960s. If he could have frightened the Germans the way he did pupils he could have marched on Berlin single handedly.
That’s a silly comparison. It’s been said before, but comparisons between leagues is pointless. Gerard just went from managing Rangers to a Premier League club. Paxtakor might not be AC Milan, but they’re no mugs and SA can only win with what he has and who he is put up against. There’s no team in Uzbekistan’s top division that’s worse than San Marino, not even close.
Steven Gérard never managed before but got a league title up here..if you are good enough...you are good enough
OK I was being flippant. And I agree comparing leagues is not exactly a science - I would still argue that… Turkey > Israel > Uzbekistan doesn’t look like he’s on an upward trajectory.
I too think it's a risk .... but Acun obviously believes in him and I'd expect that if it isn't working out then their friendship would more likely be a good thing, meaning he wouldn't want to hold back Acuns ambitions.
'If' Shota is doing a terrible job by mid-January(That's if the takeover goes through and if it's him appointed),then I'm sure he'll have access to twitter and will read all about it on there.
How about the league he managed in with the team he had ( which is not prem standard ) would still have the similar playing skills of the players in all the teams in that league, therefore he would still be managing a team here with the same level of skills in this league , it's the managerial skills he will be bringing not how good a league was. BTW not suggesting at all he is coming as a manager just responding hypothetically if he was .
He'll go wherever he's offered a job. I'd also say going from Trabzonspor, a mid to upper range Turkish clubs to the biggest and most decorated club in Israel is a step up. Pakhtakor are part owned by the Uzbek government and have a lot of money, it wouldn't surprise me if they paid him a lot of money to go there.
When we took the Queens Oath to join the TA's in the 70's we also had to sign the Official Secrets Act. They told us this Act is in force for the rest of our lives, even in civvy street.
In the English leagues .. Championship ? Decent levels of football ? The majority of his experience seems to have come at less then well known major league systems, how does this compare to the standard here ? My point being I'd rather have someone who knows what these leagues are all about then taking a punt on an unknown at this time, I hope he does well, but the unknown factor is not what I personally would want at this stage with our position being so perilous. Look at Slutsky, he had a lot of experience at quite a high level but didn't get that you need to have a defensive knowledge as well as an attacking one, and he openly admitted that,
