When my daughter was in the RAF based at Conningsby, about 12 years ago they had a family day, and showcased the Eurofighter Typhoon, as seen on Top Gear later, but they can fly the plane on its arse at 30mph, then stick the afterburners on be out of sight in seconds, the noise and the pressure waves on your chest as it flew past was unbelievable.

I can often hear, but not see them over Holderness dogfighting, awesome planes

The Typhoon is a technically amazing fighter, but it is inherently unstable in flight and was designed that way. A huge amount of technology is used to keep it flying.

A typhoon pilot's nightmare is a dual engine failure, as the plane doesnt really glide well; the airframe, ordnance, canard wings and control services create a lot of drag and the engine thrust is used to overcome the static drag on the plane in flight. If both engines fails the pilot will lose power for his flight computer, hydraulic systems and control sevices. If they have sufficent height, they can go into a steep descent to generate speed to increase airflow over the wings and control surfaces and then line up the aircraft for a landing. Serious skill, knowledge, experience, training and reactions needed. Usually the best outcome is an ejection and loss of the airframe. I take my hat off to the RAF pilots.

Has anyone totted up the different subjects discussed on here since the thread was started? Can we have a list please. Alphabetical or chronological order suits me.

Perhaps chronological order would be better as we would be able to ascertain any correlation between desperation/excitement/boredom and the topics discussed.

    Thanks in anticipation :emoticon-0138-think

Maybe a bit faster, but watching it flying just above the runway at a 45 degree angle, then putting his foot down was something to see, it has similar qualities to a Harrier

Seems I wasn't the only one thinking about this. It's been on again tonight, apparently after a supporter requested it:
