You make a point of highlighting how long you have been a Saints/football fan, yet you are still surprised/annoyed at football fans over reacting. I'm (only?) 26 and more than used to it by now!
Have to feel sorry for Bednarek, to be honest. He has probably been our best player for blocks made this season and then two games on the spin he deflects the ball into his own net. Add in the debacle of the red card that shouldn’t have been he looked a bit shell shocked today. I don’t think it helped being skinned by St Maximin in the first few minutes but as others have said, he could probably do with a rest. Have to agree with one post @fatletiss made about getting the ball wide quicker and getting the crosses in behind the defence and catch them moving towards their own goal, as Bednarek was on Tuesday for his tap in. Every time we did get the ball wide their back line was set, around the penalty spot or deeper, leaving no room to cross the ball between the back four and the keeper. We made it very easy for them to defend against us.
I have a lasting impression today that whenever Redmond received the ball on the right wing, he was always facing our goal and always passed the ball backwards often putting a team mate in trouble. Frustrating that no one seems to be able to take on and beat a full back and put in a decent cross.
Ah, football sucks. Game was there for the winning but we elected to throw it away. Far too much fragility in the 1st half and not enough vision in the second. Manager should have got rid of Redmond for tella IMO. Usual story of being so close but not able to get it over the line. We will come right. Good to see the injuries over and a real bonus to get Minamino on the scoresheet on debut as we are increasingly in need of someone to hit form in that department. Onwards, no looking back!
"...missed out on the greatest music to ever hit this planet and only hear it now on Absolute 80s or when TIOON7 does karaoke." *Just finished your sentence ** Yes I know my recent FaceBook post was karaoke from Louis Armstrong from the early 60s
BTW, we are still 500-1 to get relegated with William Hill. For those worried, reduce your worry with a sneaky £10 for £5k return. Also for those worried we'll implode and "Do a Bournemouth" Bournemouth 2019: P22, W5, -GD12, POINTS: 20 Saints 2020: P22, W8, GD -8, POINTS 29 9 points is a huge difference at this stage.
You're assuming he wasn't as frustrated as the rest of us which is a big assumption. He can't speed it up from the side - that is down to the players. As he said in his press interview - the decision making by some of the players was very poor today.
Let's not forget the aim this season was to improve on last season's finishing position of 11th. Whilst as fans we all started to get carried away with talk of Europa and even Champions League, Ralph kept taking it game by game (at one point he actually said we were way ahead of where he thought we would be in terms of development). Still plenty of time to better last seasons finish. That said, we were still **** today.
I’m actually absolutely sure he was, and I totally agree that largely the players have to perform themselves. But I’m trying to give a little succour back to those that think Ralph is immune to criticism.
One last thing. I thought Craig Pawson refereed the game pretty well in tough conditions. And you’d take that after the last couple of farces.
No but I felt you got away with numerous yellows. Wasn't happy with how refereeing at all, but we've taken the points that's all that matters.
