Cheers, PL. I am a bit of a Woody Guthrie fan. He was a genuine patriot, travelled to every state of America, sometimes as a hobo, and This Land is your Land expresses real love of country.

Full bodied, quite fruity - and more than a little presumptuous Available as a dry white (supremacist) or an earthy red (neck)
I think it's fair to say that lying by politicians is not such a serious offense as it used to be in this country either. Even in the House of Commons you don't have to apologise for it any more.
We had our own 'Big Lie' in the UK decades ago - Saddam's WMD's ready to launch in 45 minutes It did make us more wary. I hope Trump's big lie will make some Americans more wary in future.
Different type of lie. Blair hoped to get away with his, Trump doesn't care about that, he keeps lying even when he gets caught out.
Did Blair ever apologise for coldly lying to justify invading Iraq. I can't remember an apology (and it would have been out of character)but it was a while back.
Biden inauguration leaves Q-Anon believers in disarray https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-55746304 This is beyond mind-boggling. Grown men and women, most presumably with IQ's at least approaching 100, genuinely believing that on January 20th, Donald Trump was going to have Joe Biden and hundreds of other Democrat 'satanic kiddy-diddlers' arrested and executed. Good grief Now some Q-Anon believers have concluded in despair that... wait for it... they have been played Words fail me...
So far as the US is concerned, let's see where we are in 100 days ((c) Simply Red). Biden has ceased fracking and resumed reliance on imported oil, going against his stated policy before the election. He has killed female sports (not world-shattering but will upset many people). I am waiting to see whether the American backing of the pushback against China's territorial grabs in the South China Sea will remain in place. That's the one closest to my heart.
Some folk might wonder why I was so obsessed with the madness of President Trump in the USA, when there are much more terrible things going on around the world in other countries - countries where leaders are not held to account for the way they behave. The picture that accompanies this BBC news report on the rescue of some trapped miners in China provides an answer; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-55784231 Best wishes to those miners and their families. But if this event had happened in the US or Britain, or most other countries in the world, there would not be ranks of Party flags present at the disaster site. And the events would not be presented to the people of the nation concerned as a glorious victory for the ideology of the ruling regime. China is undoubtedly a great nation and a potent Superpower. But (like Russia) nothing that is broadcast from there can be trusted at face value. There is no Free Press - so disparaged by Trump, but so vital for a nation that values liberty and self-determination. There is no political freedom. For that reason alone, although I acknowledge the massive and ever growing influence that China has in the world (greater even than Russia, and possibly greater than the USA now after 4 years of Trumpist isolationism), I have no interest in what goes on at the top political levels in China or Russia.
As soon as there is snow and ice on the roads, the people who usually drive like pr1cks and get away with it continue to drive like pr1cks, totally unaware that their cars now have hugely diminished braking capability. All the bad habits these morons take for granted - tailgating, opportunistic overtaking or undertaking, speeding - become many times more deadly in icy conditions. Twats like that person should be banned from driving for a year, then have to pay massive insurance to ever get behind a wheel again.
