It's hardly a straw man, you're saying that you want us to wear stripes every year, but how many variations of black and amber stripes are there? People aren't daft, if kits look similar, they won't buy them because what's the point? It's not something I necessarily agree with, changing kit all the time, but I understand why it's done. Our identity isn't stripes, it's the colours we play in that make us unique. I've pointed this out before, but Cambridge, Barnet and Harrogate have all had very similar striped shirt designs to us in the last decade or so, I honestly feel it's about the colours we wear not whether it's stripes or not.
Last season’s home kit was crap and the shash was gash. Black / Amber stripes with black shorts for me. Hope we keep the Black away shirt kit…classy and smart..
I love the variations we have, like @Steven Toast mentioned, stripes year after year would be very boring and I personally wouldn’t buy a new one each year. I have every shirt since 2006 and I can remember great moments from every season due to the distinct shirts.
Wanting stripes every year is not the same as wanting the same kit, there are infinite styles and designs of striped shirts to keep the new shirt brigade happy. Sorry, I disagree that the identity of a club is ONLY down to its colours. Can't imagine Newcastle fans happy to see their team playing in a plain white shirt somehow.
It's an issue for you, fair enough, whereas I prefer a plain amber shirt but am happy enough to alternate between that and stripes so long as we kept to our colours.
Well, their colours are black and white, so if it was some combination of black and white I don't see why there'd be an issue. They've NEVER changed their pattern since they became a league club, so yes some probably would question it. Which is fine for them, but we have changed our style and our identity isn't locked into striped shirts. Two of our three promotion shirts were not striped and the Flamingo Land one was pin striped which you could barely make out on TV, I didn't hear anybody pointing this out then.
I like that (reminds me of the Great Escape shirt) and I do think some variation of stripes are part of our identity, not just the colours. Tigers have stripes. Our home shirt this season just gone was naff imo. Amber with a black horizontal skidmark just isn’t as classy as solid black and amber stripes.
Not keen myself. The stripes look like some 16 year old spotty faced kid designed it in 5 minutes in CorelDraw4.
I don't mind this year's kit as it is unique but it's nothing outstanding. While tigers have stripes they don't have straight vertical ones so I don't think traditional stripes is the best reflection. There's so much we can do with tiger print and I think it's criminally underused. I think to be eye catching to a wider audience we need something unique and I don't see how stripes does that. All the striped shirts look pretty similar
Lots are struggling for cash, non more so than parents with kids who are asked for expensive kits each season. There could be a ground full of amber and black each year and if you didn’t look too closely does it matter to which season they originate?
