Former Manchester United and Everton coach Steve Round said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, April 1) that Queens Park Rangers will challenge for promotion next season.

Rangers are playing in the Championship at the moment after getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the last season.

It is unlikely that QPR will finish in the top six of the league table this campaign and make it into the playoffs.

Round believes that under manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the London outfit will make a push for promotion to the Premier League next season.

“I think he will develop into a really really good manager and he has turned things around at QPR,” said Round on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, April 1).

“Slowly and surely he has started to get them into the place that he wants them ready for next season. I think they will have a real strong promotion push next year with Jimmy.”

Hasselbaink was appointed as the QPR boss in December, and results under him have not been great.

If Hasselbaink is able to sign the players he wants in the summer transfer window, then QPR will be a force to be reckoned with in the Championship next season.

...except for that bit about signing players, all very credible. We have no money, and the players we want to offload aren't worth anything.

probably need 3-4 decent acquisitions and I reckon we'll give it a right old go. Villa and Newcastle, who I believe will come down, are in for shock, both will struggle imo

Jimmy has impressed me and certainly seems to have the minerals.

The evidence since the January window 2015 is that they have kicked that particular bad habit. And I can't blame them, all it does is rack up the imbalance between what a club like QPR can generate in terms of income and what it costs to run. It takes more balls to say that we are going to run this club sustainably, and take the time it needs to get back to the PL, on the clear understanding that this may never happen. The club lost £45m in its last season in the PL, you can't keep on chucking money at a broken business, you have to rebuild it from the bottom up, which is what I think is happening now.

The income stream in the PL is needed to enable the Club to have a decent chance of running a sustainable and successful operation. What the owners need and supporters should demand. We will also need a larger stadium in the very near future. The income stream in the Championship will be reduced as the parachute payments dwindle to nothing after 3 more seasons. It will be more and more difficult each season to be sustainable and even stay in this League. You won't buy a season ticket, who will? A good basis has and is being made but the quality of the squad needs improving in a few positions to have a good chance of a real push for the promotion that has to be the target for next season.

Before this post, was thinking about a cheeky punt on us to win the league next season. If I do, that would be my second ever bet on the footie!

......... and we have a very leaky defence which, unless fixed properly, we'll be doing squat next season.

Spot on. Nevertheless, I think our owners are committed and are prepared to spend, albeit more sensibly, if FFP allows them to do so. There is evidence of this in the significant fee paid for Washington, using almost all the funds generated by Austin's sale.

I'm not sure whether it is painful experience or FFP which has brought about this new budget consciousness. Probably a bit of both!

Good post mate and I am glad you posted it as your first post on this thread seemed a bit doom laden. You are right in that we need to get shot of the big earners but the fact three of them are out on loan to Prem clubs gives me hope they may go. Also freeing up Greens wages will allow for signings I would have thought.

Im not impressed i hope im wrong but looking at washington i cant really feel very impressed with his purchasing
Im compareing him with gerry francis because everybody said that gerry didnt have a great start at loftus road but remember gerry bought players like dennis bailey devon white ian holloway etc,all for low transfer prices, so based on that im yet to be that impressed but certainly in polter and chery hes got a couple of gems
