club reject bid form rival championship club http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~2378923,00.html
Damn. I was hoping that no one was going to put in a bid for him and that he'd sign due to a lack of interest. Frankly, I want this sorted out as soon as possible, so we should offer him a better contract with a large release clause requiring an answer within two weeks. If he doesn't sign then put him up for sale with the price starting at £4M.
He has undoubtedly got great potential but the injury he suffered in 2010 took him a long long time to recover from. In today's football financial terms, £4m is a drop in the ocean, and even if (god forbid) he gets seriously injured again, insurance will pay out to cover the outlay someone makes.
£5m plus to a Premier league side would be very acceptable and of course we believe our new chairman... 'Chairman Colin Sexstone told bcfc.co.uk: "We are not in the business of selling our best players and we would certainly not sell to another Championship club'....
I'm reliably informed the offer was from Forest not Leicester! So all the Leicester fans giving it large are gonna be disappointed.
We're in no rush to sell and I still believe that unless an offer of 3/4 m with sizeable add ons comes in, then Nicky will be going nowhere soon. Could all change in January though depending on what sort of start to the season he gets.
The last time I checked Maynard has a 25% sell-on fee clause in his contract after signing from Crewe. If we don't get at least £4M we'll make nothing from a guy who could play Premier League football.
Is that 25% of the profit from the sell on or the overall total, this has come up before and I still don't know...?
It's usually 25% of the profit. At the end of the day the player holds all the cards under Bosman - IMO Maynard would be mad to go anywhere but a Premier League club. With respect to Leicester or Forest neither are guaranted promotion. So if he remians in the Championship he should stay at Bristol City where their style of play will be geared to getting the ball to him in scoring positions.
I am glad you believe Sky Sports because they do say apart from Leicester, there is also Nottingham Forest,West Ham Utd and Southampton interested. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6998705,00.html
The more clubs that are interested , the better. It gives us the best chance to make a decent profit. A bidding war is best for us so let it commence.
Perhaps, although we're yet to hear what the man himself wants. For all we know he's having a lovely holiday and is looking forward to getting back to Bristol to sign his new contract. Sadly, in a world of agents I bet his is on the phone with him now trying to negotiate a way out of City for megabucks. For me, it's all down to what Maynard wants. We offered him a way into the Championship and I would hope that he'd sign a contract and remain with us. Quite frankly, if we let another Championship team get him for anything less than £4M I'll be annoyed at Millen. Over the past couple of years our front-line has completely changed year on year and with Maynard being offered a new contract I hoped that we'd be able to let a young team grow and learn together to become stronger as the years ago by. If we sell off every young prospect the second there is some interest then we'll never get out of mid-table mediocrity.
