North Ferriby United facing financial blow as Hull City consider cutting ties

The Tigers are considering taking their reserve games away from Church Road and will not send a first team for a pre-season friendly

Hull City are considering cutting their long-standing ties to North Ferriby United in a move that could leave the Villagers significantly out of pocket.

The Tigers have had a long relationship with the National League North club, playing their Under-23s games out of the Church Road ground, while also sending a squad with first team players to contest the Billy Bly Memorial Trophy against the Villagers, a game which acts as a major revenue stream in the summer for the non league side.

That pre-season game is currently scheduled to take place once again this summer the Mail has learned, but like last year will only be against a youthful reserves side and will not be against a team featuring any first team players as had been the previous system adopted by City until 2017.

City continue to finalise their pre-season plans which so far includes games against Maritimo and SC Braga on July 10 and 13 respectively, plus Rochdale on Saturday July 21 and Newcastle United on Tuesday July 24, with no room in a busy schedule for a first team game with Ferriby which used to take place mid-July, often acting as the first game of pre-season.

The Mail understands Ferriby are in negotiations with City not just regarding a traditional pre-season game, but also to come to an agreement on the staging of the City reserve games at the newly named Chadwick Joiners and Builders Stadium.

The Tigers are considering moving the Under-23s away from North Ferriby, with taking the games to Bridlington Town’s Hudgell Solicitors Stadium one option being considered alongside hosting matches at Bishop Burton, home to the academy.

Reserve team home games have been played away from Ferriby in recent years, with the KCOM Stadium hosting a number of matches in the past two years.

City are considering their options to stay in Ferriby, who are now owned by Carl Chadwick following a takeover last month from Jamie Waltham, who courted controversy in his short time in charge after taking over from Steve and Eman Forster in November 2017.

Losing the annual pre-season friendly game against a first team side would cost the Villagers an estimated £20,000 in lost revenue, but the dissolving of a relationship which saw City reserve games hosted by the club would cost the Villagers even more, with City having previously paid towards the upkeep of the pitch.

The news will come as a major blow to new owner Chadwick, who is trying to rebuild the club in the wake of not just a relegation but the controversial ownership of Waltham, who while addressing the spiralling finances continued to hit the headlines for the wrong reasons.

With City are yet to make a decision on where their reserve team games will be staged next season, Ferriby remain hopeful of a resolution which will see the relationship continue.

It seems all this might be little more than a shabby negotiating tactic, City have increased their requirements, while halving the amount they're willing to pay.

An insult to the memory of one of City's long-standing heroes.
A potentially damaging financial setback to a local club.
    Is their bitterness boundless ?

Just when you think they can’t be anymore spiteful towards us and they pull this stunt.

I commented on a few games I attended since January, the pitch has been shocking. Whether Waltham has skimped on upkeep I don't know. But maybe. And the new owner is catching the brunt of it.

What better way to protest than we all go to Ferriby games whilst boycotting Hull Tigers games?

Ehab ****ing them over, just because he can.

He thinks he can get them to accept terrible terms, because they're not currently financially viable without City's contribution.

So those that have cancelled membership should be straight down there packing it out. It'll send out a message if people would rather go there than City.

The new owners a fool if he's saying things like this to randoms isn't he.
how much. Would we pay for a game for the ressies every few weeks?
    Can't be that much surely?
Mebbe Waltham knew what was coming and got out quick.

Poor show anyway. Difficult decision for chaddy.

They make £20k from the pre-season game alone, it funds them for months.

I think you really meant to say yes given the rest of your statement. Some serious issues with the "family" with their outrageous actions over the last few years.
