I don't get the need for someone like him. One a last payday and don't recall him pulling up any trees in his career

Agreed. Probably a bum steer to add to the 100 plus last year.

I disagree with that, he's one of those players that do all the grunt work that goes un-noticed. He'd be a quality addition to free up Huddlestone.

If this is going to be summer transfer thread may I suggest that the first person to mention a certain Cardiff strikers name be named knob of the year?

I've been impressed by Muntari in the past, but I don't think signing older players* on high wages is the way the club should be going.

With our squad all having this season under their belts, we're OK for experience and should be looking at adding players aged 20-24 who are hungry to move up from lower leagues or move within the Premier in search of regular first-team football.

    (* I'm not convinced he's still only 29.)

Not this again. It's every transfer window now.

"Oh, looks like we're going to sign Allan McGregor"
"Really? How old is he then?"
    "31?"
"Oh **** that, he's far too old"

Just because you're over thirty doesn't mean you're suddenly **** and past it. Look at Koren, Windass, Ashbee, Dawson, Duke. All great players and all "past it" when they were playing for us, by some peoples standards. The only thing that age plays into is future re-sale value and retirement. For Christ's sake, Harper is 39 and at present our first choice keeper! Also, look at the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Puyol, Alves, Xavi, Valdes, Casillas, Alonso, Robben; all 30+ and all would walk into our team.

We have enough players that are 'young'; Chester, Huddlestone, Davies, Boyd, Long, Quinn, Meyler, Livermore, McShane, Dudgeon, Aluko, Sagbo, Fryatt....

Age means **** all. If you're good enough, you're young enough.

Sebastian Larson, Chris Brunt, Jack Colback, Craig Gardner all out of contract at the end of the season, will make very decent squad signings

That's a complete misrepresentation of my post and a very crass simplification.

For starters, very different age parameters apply to keepers.

Then you've pretty much ignored the economic aspect that I'd touched on. Just because a player might be good enough for the team on the day you sign him, it doesn't mean signing him would make more sense than signing a younger player on lower wages, with more potential, resale value, motivation etc.

If we needed an old head, then I'd be all for a move like this. But we don't. We have the experience of McGregor, Harper, McShane, Rosenior, Davies, Figueroa, Bruce, Huddlestone, Meyler, Koren, Long, Jelavic and Fryatt. It's hardly a dressing room full of raw recruits.

Fair enough, but looking at what we have now and where it's got us this season, don't you think we're on the right track?

It's not just the experience of a footballing career that matters, it's the experience of playing week in, week out at the top level that matters and only half the lads on that list have done that. If we were to add more youngsters with no PL experience it would unbalance the team. Really you only need one or two in the squad and the rest need to have at least some experience of top flight football.

Priority must be to get Livermore signed up, then go from there!

Holtby and Butner on loan. Spend some cash on a CB to start alongs side Davies and Chester if we play a back 3 (and to replace Faye in the squad.)

Thats based on not losing any first teamers and keeping most of the players OOC.

Out - Faye, Jakopovic and Proschwitz.

Sam Byram and Ross McCormack from TWS plus Berahino and Amalfitano from Wba are the 4 names that have been rumoured.

Not sure any of them are any better than what we have now.

We dont need to spend any cash on another CB. Michael Turner is out of contract this summer.

What has happened to Faye ? Is he injured as nothing is ever said about Faye now.

If Derby don't come up then I'd fancy Richard Keogh as a CB to make the step up. I like Sidwell to add some real drive from midfield.

May I nominate YOU for "Knob of the Year" for your consistently stupid and offensive posts.
