    2 steps forward....2 steps back.

    Paper thin squad.

    5 seasons running.

    Repeat ad nauseum.

Great thread. Managers come and managers go, each one believing that they can succeed where the others have failed. We, the fans, have supported them all, the protests have died, yet Groundhog Day continues.

Perhaps Charlton could invite Bill Murray to the Valley, and make him CEO while they are at it.

Groundhog Day 5 - How Roland fvcked up Charlton the same time each season.

I’m not a fan of Grant, but it’s January Groundhog Day again under this cretin if an owner.

The season will now hit the buffers unless we sign strikers.

    <wah>

    1. Amazed somebody is prepared to shell out a load of dough on a player with 12 months of League 1 and League 2 football.

    2. No problem with Karlan Ahearne Grant leaving for a life changing pay day.

    3. No surprise that Dushitelet sanctioned the deal.

    4. Disappointed that Bowyer will no doubt 'say the right thing' IF he Karlan Ahearne Grant leaves.

    5. SERIOUSLY F***** OFF THAT @Clb74 STITCHED ME UP OVER THE SECOND BREAKFAST.

Disappointing to see Belgian Regime arselicker Rich Cawley seeking to justify the Grant sale tonight.

Fortunately Henry Irving quickly corrected him, by pointing out who let 12 members of the squad run down their contracts this summer, as well as who has saved money over the last 12 months by not allowing Charlton to have a CEO.

    This is a terrible shame.

Bowyer has done a fantastic job of getting the best out of the squad he has.
But at the same time he plainly doesn't care about the four years of mismanagement and bungling by RD and KM that led to the day that he was given the job as caretaker manager.
What he says about Grant leaving will probably confirm this.

That leads me to seriously doubt that Lee Bowyer is really the 'Charlton man' that many fans seem to believe him to be.
Whether or not he succeeds in gaining promotion for CAFC this season, I don't see any evidence that he would feel any loyalty towards the future hopes of Charlton fans if another Club makes him a decent offer of a management job in the summer.

In terms of acknowledging (even with a nod and a wink) what a cock Duchatelet really is, Bowyer has done less than many other Charlton managers since 2014 - including Slade, Robinson and even Jose Riga.

Riga jacked it in, leaving people with no doubts what he thought of the management.

Robinson at the Bromley Q&A did not deny that he came out with the "basket case club" quote when he was with Milton Keynes.

Slade at the pre-season with Orient knew he'd made a mistake and you could tell with his body language there was a problem.

I like Bowyer and think he has done a wonderful job for somebody with zero experience in the role. However, he realises he got this job as there was nobody else left in the building and has seized on an opportunity he would have not got from the 91 other clubs.

    Fact -

Bowyer got a tremendous reception from our 2,600 fans throughout the match and after it yesterday. Despite the average performance, he brought the team over to the two away stands at full time and the response was excellent.

Nobody gives a flying bollox about Lee’s managerial CV, a tiff in McDonalds 25 years ago, or whether he was 10th choice for the job.

He got it, he had got the team motivated, and he can spot a good player.

And our support is 110% behind him.

The support of Charlton fans is not 110% behind Lee Bowyer.

The hardcore of away supporters can muster 2,500+ for a relatively straightforward away trip to Peterborough. That is a good thing.
But there are still more empty seats than full ones at the Valley for every home game.

Thousands of Charlton fans - almost half of the number who were attending five years ago - are not supporting the team in person anymore.
Even though attendances have been rising in the last month or two, the average home attendance this season is still down on last season.
And that despite everything Bowyer has achieved.

    Duchatelet is the problem.

And despite what his army of admirers might want to believe, Lee Bowyer is not the solution.
Only a take-over and a completely clean break with the last five years will begin the healing process and reunite our fan base.

In the meantime if we win promotion then great.
Like all fans who still attend I'd rather watch Charlton playing good Championship teams again. And I'll give Bowyer the respect he is due for making that happen.
Then we'll see what happens if RD still won't sell the Club.
