36 years, straw bales, no safety car, marshalls wandering around the run off area, bit like rally driving today.
Not even sure if there's a yellow flag, just looks like a marshall waving them to slow (which it doesn;t look like they are), it's a borderline red flag these days.
Just read the latest BBC column by that donkey Jolyon Palmer. As far he's concerned Ocon had no right to try and overtake Max, Ocon hit Max when the footage shows different, he had every right to push Ocon in the weigh room and didn't deserve his punishment. The man is clueless
well, the 2nd Toro Rosso seat is still available, maybe he's angling in there, after all, they have Kvyatt.
As I read it I couldn't believe what he was saying. Completely biased and poor journalism. I usually agree with much of what he says but not this time. And pushing people around like a brat is not acceptable these days, certainly not on the pitch.
First time I've ever read something from Jollywrong Palmer. I'd have missed it if not for your comment and a bit of coffee time to investigate. I'm disappointed with some of the public statements from respected drivers and I think he is jollying on their bandwagon. I don't think there's a single sentence I agree with.
It was clear from his commentary through Radio 5 Live and the tweeting through the races that he was very bitter about losing his drive this year, I think he especially critical of anything a Renault driver did wrong in the early part of the season. It was very transparent! Mediocre driver, mediocre pundit!
I'm utterly baffled by some of the response from certain people in and around the sport and some of the comments elsewhere online. You could argue it was a 50/50 at best, but Max totally cost himself the win there. He knows it.
This is worth a watch, onboard with Ocon from pre-pitstop to post-accident: To me, it makes it look like even less Ocon's fault. Team radio confirms Ocon was told he could pass, and that Verstappen knew Ocon was quick. In the incident itself, I'm not sure Ocon could have ducked out of the collision in any way either.
Interesting to see the footage, must be from an official source, which is surprising. With the onboard and radio messages it does put it in a better context. While Max was in the lead he should not have been fighting a backmarker he knew was of faster tyres. He even appeared to close the inside off for the first corner forcing Ocon to the outside. After seeing the footage I would even go as far as to say it should have been classified as a racing incident! I really think Max set himself up by forcing Ocon to the outside of corner 1 and therefore Ocon had the inside for turn 2!!! So maybe Max should have pushed Ocon wide on turn 1 and thus Ocon would not have been on the inside for turn 2. So many options that would have Max on the top step but in the heat of the moment he messed up. I wonder if Horner is being so vocal as the team should have told him not to fight Ocon but they didn't! Bottom line is the decision is not going to be changed but Max behavior afterwards in front of the cameras deserves more than 2 days 'community service'. Maybe an anger management course
To be honest after watching this and given Ocons large penalty I'm fairly sure Force India could appeal (Not that it would help in anyway) Arguably you could go after the stewards for bringing the sport into disrepute. Not than anyone will shake things that much. All it's caused is a massive loss of respect across the board.
The stewards I assume would have had access to this footage in their deliberations, if so they are guilty and it should drive a serious discussion for next season about professional stewards. This is sport and it is about racing, if you are faster you overtake. Can someone make sure Red Bull, Liberty, FIA and others have a copy of this if they don't/haven't seen it already. Max should be shown this and asked to apologise.
