Exactly, it's places like Market Weighton that have suffered most, they had a small supermarket that everyone could trade alongside no problem, but that massive Tesco has killed the place.

    Spot on.

I spend a lot of time going to market towns and suchlike all over the north of England and Southern Scotland and the amount of family run businesses and small retail enterprises that have gone to the wall over the last 10 years is depressing.

My wife used to make a reasonable living on craft markets across the north of England too but that's dying as well.

I stopped in Market Weighton a few months back en route to a gig in Pocklington - we were intending to grab a bite to eat there.

I was surprised to find the place was an absolute ****hole and the only place serving food - the Marstons gaff on the main road - was rammed out with a function with screaming kids all over the ****ing place.

We sacked it off and ended up eating in that hotel/restaurant place just as you turn off to Pocklington. Was bloody nice though.

Sad to see the state of Weighton though I must say - I hadn't been for years. My Mum's cousin used to run a sweet shop there many moons ago (they're long since retired) but I guess you'd have no chance of such a shop nowadays.

    Totally correct.
Obviously you will only find certain things on the net but a lot of it is bone idleness.

Okay maybe I spoke to soon about Yodel.

Was suppose to have two parcels delivered today.

On tracking area of the website my items have been marked delivered. But no parcels.

Rang Yodel. There system is saying my item was delivered at 10:08am.

They contacted the driver, but couldn't get through and have said they'll ring me back.

    Cheers.

I did a little research into the company and some complaints are ridicules. People have had parcels put into porches that don't exist, placed in bins and items just chucked into gardens.

Which again, is your opinion and in most cases it is misplaced and incorrect.

I don't drive so internet shopping is a lifeline, its just not possible to walk everywhere to get your stuff and lots of things aren't available locally anyway. As for Yodel, the guy who does deliveries to West Hull drives a Hull City themed van so I will let him off, I think they've upped their game anyway recently as they were notorious a few years ago. I remember as I was worried when a TV I ordered came via them but not had any problems.

To Clarify I had ordered a 32inch TV, I don't drive either and I'm a student so ordering online was just miles easier. I normally prefer buying in person because you know what you're getting but as said above, you save far more online. I got a very good 32inch TV for £130, on the high street for similar models all £200+ so no questions asked really, Ofcourse I'm going to save that money rather than go on the high street

We've got a Waitrose which, like Willerby, was a result of Morrisons taking over Safeway; we've an Asda (smallish in the town centre = ex-Netto) and a Co-op. But now there's a new (and, wonderfully deserted) new Tesco. But the town has two good butchers, a brilliant green-grocers, a news/convenience store, a bookshop, three chippies, 5 pubs, 4 or 5 banks, a wholefoods shop. We've a Saturday market, with cheese-seller, fish-mongers (2), loads of fruit and veg, bakers, nurserymen, petfoods, you name it. We get a farmers' market, once a month, too.

But my Packard Bell laptop was £100 more in the town computer shop, than in PC World in Kings Lynn. Probs cheaper on-line, but so what?

    Updated.

Still haven't got my parcels and no closer to getting them.

Yodel have interviewed the driver and he told them it was signed for by a middle age man. It looks like they've delivered to the wrong address.

So someone has got a nice expensive coat for free.

A signature really isn't enough to prove **** these days...Photographic ID should be needed when receiving parcels.

Still no closer to sorting it out.

Yodel won't admit they delivered it to the wrong address even though they clearly have. Because the driver described the house of having a side entrance and my house only has front and back.

I've contracted the supplier and they're talking to Yodel.

I've been messing around for a week and I've still not got it sorted out.

    It's a complete piss take.
