Ralph Hasenhüttl said: "I am very happy with this news. Stuart is a very smart player and is someone who is important for our team.

"He has become more comfortable and confident playing in the number ten position, and it has been pleasing to see the development he has made as a result of the work he has done with us on this. I think he is someone who can continue to improve and make a very positive contribution for us here in the future, so it is good for the club and for him also to sign this deal.”

Stuart Armstrong said: "I'm very happy. It's a great group, we're doing well, it's very positive, and to extend my time here and be part of the club going into the future is something I'm very happy about.

"It's a great club to be a part of and it's a club that has a feel of positivity and heading in the right direction."

Interesting. Normally players sign a new contract just before they start playing badly.

Hopefully we'll see the old Stu soon then.

Beat me to it. To be fair, Stu is slowly getting there, but the Covid obviously affected his core fitness levels severely. The contract extension is at least a signal that the club think he’ll get back to his former best.

Beat me to it, a lot not known about CV-19 recovery and how it affects individuals.

He might not be in form at present, but this is still very good news.

No coincidence imo that our drop in form as an attacking entity has coincided with Armstrongs drop in form. When he is playing well, we are playing well. Good to get him signed up. Now for Ings and Bertrand please Saints.

That's good news. A player viewed as not good enough when we signed him I recall. Celtic benchwarmer?

    What would he cost now?

Wonder if Stuart signed because he wanted to, or because he was strong-armed into it.

It was probably because he thinks Hampshire is a better place for his farm.
