I know Leighton pretty well. His dad and mine played football together. I first saw Leighton play for Cardiff Reserves v Neath Athletic at the Dog Track in Skewen
On this day 82 years ago, a man who deservedly has been called ‘Mr Swansea City’ was born: Happy birthday Mel
I was 8 at the time and I am also able to remember this vividly. I can remember having a collection in school for the families of the victims and all the boys in the class going up to the teacher to give their donations. My late brother in law Dave (he was 20 years older than me) was a miner in one of the pits in Maesteg at the time and he, along with several others, were driven by bus to Aberfan to assist the rescue efforts. Dave, unfortunately started suffering with Dementia at 50 years of age and deteriorated progressively for 14 years. There were many occasions during those years when he was staring into space that he’d start saying ‘Those children, those poor children, we can’t save them, we can’t help them …..’ I also remember about 2 or 3 years after the disaster, my parents taking my (younger) sister and me to Aberfan and walking around the cemetery. There was one grave that contained the bodies of a brother and sister who had died in the disaster - the children had the same Christian names as my sister and me …..

30 years ago today, Australia beat England (12-6) at Twickenham …. I know coz I was there We arrived early - 4th car in the car park across the road. My late brother-in-law Dave almost fainted when the guy said the cost was £15. There was a guy snoozing in the car next to us (3rd car in) - Ray Gravelle! When the final whistle went, we dashed back to the car and were back in a pub in Maesteg (where Dave lived) at 7pm - my first beer of the day as I was driving. Wouldn’t go in The Crown now - it’s a Cardiff City pub
I bet he keeps track of every penny he spends every day in a little notebook and makes sure it reconciles each night before turning the light out
Well I do get the impression Taff either has a background in accounting or he's very careful sensible with money
