There were quite a few French watching it in the pub I was in pre and post match in W6 yesterday. I had to go home so fortunately missed most of the match.
There was a rather amusing quip on BBC Scotland radio's Off the Ball program at lunch time today - "In solidarity with the Welsh rugby players who wanted to strike, the English rugby players refused to play against France yesterday"
Scotland are well known for being stronger in the second half. I hope I don't regret that claim later...
From what the pundits were saying Scotland just didn't cope with the changes Ireland had to make due to injury - probably because Ireland still had a strong team.
Once upon a time we could blame the Wee Free church, which forbids sports on a Sunday. There have been a few members play for the country... Shouldn't really blame religion though - it never harmed the All Blacks One of the most gifted RU forwards ever - Michael Jones - refused to play on Sundays, but the All Blacks always seemed to win without him.
Close game at Murryfield - Scotland ahead 19-14 against Italy with a couple of minutes left - and hanging on grimly in the face of an Italian onslought...
Thursday night is darts night. Mere mortals we are, anything over 80 is fist bumped, and tons plus get a raucous cheer. Strong team we are, propping up the whole league... Tonight we played at a driving range a few miles out of town, I have many happy memories from when it was also a fully fledged 18 hole club. Mrs Fez was Ladies Captain here. But back to the darts... We lost. Again. No matter, there was pizza and beer... Back to the Local for a swifty, and myself, the Landlord, my partner and another team mates (Watford, Wigan, Brentford and Spurs respectively) are watching another sporting love for the four of us: golf. Rory McIlroy, 1 UP through 17. It's 23:40. Just about to finish my beer... "Well, it'd be rude to leave now..." says I. So we stayed. Hats and coats on... Adverts finish... Rory McIlroy on the 18th tee... 345 yards par 4......... THWACK... Bounce at the front of the green... Three feet and nine inches from the flag. One of the all time great tee shots ever. So glad I stayed on to watch it. Sensational.
Record run chase by South Africa for a T20 Reaching West Indies 259 with some room to spare. Some outstanding hitting .
My father used to play it - when he stopped playing he kept two curling stones outside, either side of the front door. After he died we cleared the house out and bought mum a flat - during the viewings to sell the house, some bastard nicked them.
