Following on from GG and Trev's discussion yesterday about our most important game ever, it got me wondering where Bruce ranks in the list of all our previous managers. I know he is ****, but is he our worst ever?

For me there are at least four worse.

Joe Kinnear - not only did he have the second lowest win percentage of any permanent manager but he also brought nothing but ridicule on our club in the way he acted. He was also the ultimate example of what life under Ashley is like and was responsible for the first relegation under Ashley

Ossie Ardiles - worst win percentage of any permanent manager and nearly took us down to the third tier for what would have been the first time ever. I'd put him above Kinnear just because he was a nicer guy and didn't bring the ridicule to the club that JK did.

Steve McClaren - utter ****e and wasted the first serious money that Ashley ever invested in the transfer market. Responsible for our last relegation

Richard Dinnis - Although Gordon Lee started dismantling Joe Harvey's team, it was Dinnis who brought on our relegation and years in the wilderness of the old second division after years of being competitive and playing good football.

I was going to add a poll to pick our worst manager, but I couldn't get it down to only ten choices of **** managers - and that's just in my lifetime.

I think if we go down, Bruce will have a really special place in our history. He took a club with a somewhat optimistic outlook after the reign of a popular manager, decent players in the squad, a good chunk of cash spent on players of a type he is known to work with and it all just peetered out into possibly some of the worst football we've ever watched.

Joe Kinnear is presumably, from his antics and health problems some type of alcoholic.

Allerdyce was not good but we were drilled.

I think McClaren is probably on par with Bruce, but I think we will be going down under this manager. So I have voted for he will be by the time he's sacked, not many Newcastle managers have came into a position of relative assured safety, been asked to do nothing but the absolute bare minimum of just keep the club atleast a half an arms length away from relegation and failed so incredibly.

All the while, not showing a shed of passion, integrity or care for the club he manages. He seems to proactively hate his job, doesn't care if we lose and doesn't want to be here.

We don't want you here either you disgusting worm, so do us all a favour. Carpet bomb his house.

I think if you gave me a list of managers of our usual catagory to hire after Rafa... Bruce would have been near the very bottom, as was McClaren.

We consistently make decisions which make league go "huh?"

After Cardiff, Warnock would have been much higher on my list ffs.

We hired a manager who hadn't managed in the prem for ages. Baffling.

    Summed up perfectly.

Allardyce, Souness, McLaren and of course Kinnear were all dreadfully bad, but the fact Bruce has been so abysmal at every aspect makes me think he is. It's the Charnley saying of "pound for pound"; in terms of what Bruce has been given, what he inherited and what the job description was, he's failed in every aspect and on top of it all has come across as a lying, careless, spineless sack of crap.

To be more hated than Souness is some achievement.

McClown and Gullit were worse than Bruce.
At least Bruce is a 'nice guy' and a 'Geordie' and 'one of us'.
McClown made Frank Spencer look competent and Gullit had, for me an arrogance about him and didn't show the fans or the club respect.

Took over a side that finished 5th by 1 point from mega bucks Chelsea in 4th and was given 50 million , but he managed to turn us into a bottom half club in the process.

50 million back then was a lot of money on comparison to now.

I think you could make a case that Sluness was the reason we ended up with Mike ashley in the 1st place.

The fans could actually get managers sacked and force the owners hand back then.

We've never had an owner not as far as I'm aware has any club had an owner that simply ignores the fans completely..

It took some time and there's still the odd banner here or there, but Mike ashley has single handedly wiped the floor with the Toon army..... They know they're powerless.

He’s not the worst manager no. But unfortunately for him:

    • He’s slagged off the fans.
    • Spouted crap since he started.
    • Didn’t believe he was in a relegation fight until now.
    • He’s a fan and thus should know better than to slate us.
    • He could not only cost us our premiership status but also the takeover.
    • Which means we will probably be stuck with Ashley.
    • He’s played players in stupid positions.
    • He thinks he’s the dogs bollocks.
    • We didn’t want him, not because we don’t like him. But because his managerial record proved that he was a crap manager.
    • He constantly thinks of money over the bigger picture.
    • He has no shame in managing arch rivals for his own personal interest.
I think that more than covers things.

Bruce kept us up last year to his credit which I doubt McLaren would have and Carver would definitely have not. However the vote must go to Kinnear for the all round package of being a fool and a lousy manager.

I think Kinnear would have kept us up, which is staggering.

I also like any manager who shows a bit of metal in press conferences personally.

For Kinnear to come out of essentially retirement, takeover and somehow look like we were safe is impressive. But he was losing his mind at that point.

For that reason, I'd take Warnock over Bruce every single day of the week, I'd love for us to still be ****, but have a manager everyone ****ing hates in charge. He loves winding up the opposition.

Disagree on Gullit. He was a poor manager but not the worst. He did resign and did not claim any compensation and for that I give him some respect.

Dinnis was never ever a manager. He completely lacked any managerial experience and for that I wouldn’t put him as worst.

Souness was the worst IMO before Bruce turned up. Even worse than McClaren and Kinnear as Souness dismantled Sir Bobby’s team just to try and prove he was in charge. Then Bruce turned up and he wins hands down. I can’t think of one positive that he brings to the table. He is incompetent on all levels.
