Would be good to see Henry given a run-out in midfield, Barker at FB or the position Clare has been playing and Burstow up front. Elerewe should be fit too.
I imagine we will be taking this more seriously now as our promotion hopes are all but gone. So not sure how much tinkering we will be doing.
We all want to see us have a go at this trophy, but the 4 youngsters I mentioned would do us proud, I'm convinced of it.
At the risk of sounding like I'm on the wrong forum, I have to say I'm no more interested in the Papa John's Trophy now than I was back in August. Yes, it would be nice for JJ to win a pot in his first season as gaffer. But there's no way the EFL Trophy should be seen as mitigating the fact that CAFC is having an awful, awful season. Our worst in living memory. I'm not resigned to it, and I'm not having it. I want to see Charlton pushing back up into the 2nd quarter of the table (from 12th up to 7th position). I want to see our Club in the mix for a play-off spot. Even if Charlton win the EFL Trophy, if we finish bottom half of the league we'll be needing an new manager next season in my opinion. It's not having a sense of entitlement to want better than we've seen so far this season. I'm hugely grateful still to TS, but that gratitude is not going to morph into acceptance of lower league mediocrity. Where we are is not good enough. I want to see us climbing the league table, Not the steps at Wembley to collect a joke of a trophy.
I don't like it either, but the fact is that we're an average L1 squad. We have good days and bad days, but don't have enough players who can do the basics well enough to get us promoted and play at a higher level. Our two most hyped signings. Kirk and Arter, are flops, We don't have an effective winger, are too reliant on Stockley up front, and Dobson seems to be the only midfielder who is a good passer of the ball.
All goes back to a strange and ultimately poor summer transfer window. This year we need to do better and spend a lot more money OR accept that we are in the correct league and do our best within a limited budget.
Surprised just how weak that looks. JJ obviously hasn’t given up on promotion yet then. That’s fair enough and it will be a chance for some of these lads to show if they are good enough or not.
