Taken from the BBC Gossip & Rumours Sunderland are considering whether to replace boss Dick Advocaat, 68, with 39-year-old former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, who is head of the elite development squad at Manchester City. (Mirror) I don't know how I'd feel about this, would this be another Keane affair? Would certainly sort out the slackers!!!
It would be a surprise if true, but Short is no mug, given where we are, the squad we have, the prospects of staying up ( at the moment) he would really stupid if he didn't have an eye on the short term future. If there is any truth, then it suggests to me we have one eye on the championship next season.
I suspect this is more Mirror claptrap. It makes no sense. He`s not going to replace Ged. If he`s head of the elite development squad at Manchester City he has better players to work with where he is. Don`t see him coming as understudy to DA. He`s not going to learn enough in a few months to be in a position to take over. Can`t see him replacing DA. Not that he`d want to. One look at our recent history would be enough to say no although I suspect that would be enough put off all but the most desperate managers.
I know what you're saying, But I still believe Sunderland is still a great job for a manager (as is Newcastle by the way) The Stadium, training facilities the fan base and the fact that although there are few on here who don't think we spend, we are still up there among the bigger spenders....just a shame it always hasn't been on the right players. I think an ambitious guy would look at Sunderland and think if he could turn the club around he would make a real name for himself.. If we could unearth an Eddie Howe type of manager, that would be gold dust for our club.
You may well be right but recent history suggests they`d be pretty much guaranteed to fail and that doesn`t look good on any CV. If it was me I`d be thinking "6 managers tried, 6 managers failed, there`s something seriously wrong with that place, no thanks."
There is only one manager in the world that MAYBE could sort it out. Sadly he.s retired now and is probably just drinking whiskey.
Hope DA takes it all with a pinch of salt, at the moment we are rock bottom and ripe for idle speculation, the media is full of it, and it will continue until we get a couple of wins, hopefully in the next three games, these are crucial times, and I think DA will see us through them, given the chance .
I'd imagine Vieira is going to be a great manager, an absolute no ****ing about leader of a man. Also, his generation, they remember Sunderland when we had some spark, listen how Henry & Ljungberg have recalled us with affection, he'd be interested. That said, it's bollocks, utter ****e. We can't keep chopping the manager, we KNOW we have a good one this time. The 'players are behind Dick' statement smacks of the last 3 or 4 managers to go, these players need moved out of the club, they think they run it. Cattermole, Johnson, O'Shea, all need moved out, not the manager.
Granted G.G, but Dick has already stated that he is going at the end of the season. Playing devils advocate could Veira come in now and spend time with DA??
He actually said the other week he may stay beyond this season. We've lost 3 in a row since like... I genuinely hope we already have plans for seasons end, hence the agreement of a 1 year deal, if we don't then someone needs fired. We can't keep winging it, cos we will fall short at some point, then we are ****ed.
I agree with this, and why would we want an inexperienced manager at this stage? it would be suicidal IMO.
While I agree that we cannot change the manager all the time, at the end of the day DA is not a long term solution is he? He will probs be gone at the end of the season, unless he signs a one year extension. if someone is available who would do a good job in the long term, why not ? I dont think Vierra would be a good bet mind you (lack of experience), as if we do replace DA we need someone with experience, who is willing to play youth players and can motivate the players no matter what happens.
