Phil Taylor will begin his attempt to win a 12th World Matchplay title with a tie against ex-air steward Mark Hylton at Blackpool's Winter Gardens in Blackpool next month.

The tournament gets under way on July 16.

The 11-time champion Taylor has a tricky start on his hands against fellow Staffordshire player Hylton. The Rugeley qualifier is playing well after reaching the last eight of the recent UK Open in Bolton.

James Wade, who won the Bolton title, is a big fan of the Matchplay's all-leg format. The world number three faces an opener against Jamie Caven.

Adrian Lewis, seeded number two, faces ex-world finalist Kevin Painter in his first round tie.

Premier League Darts champion Gary Anderson is drawn against Andy Hamilton, while last year's runner-up Raymond van Barneveld will face Steve Brown, of Bristol.

Number five seed Simon Whitlock meets Peter Wright, and Terry Jenkins, twice a finalist, takes on Steve Beaton. Wes Newton - seeded number eight and the UK Open runner-up plays Andy Smith.

Competing in his hometown Ronnie Baxter faces UK Open semi-finalist Denis Ovens, while 2005 winner Colin Lloyd comes meets Scottish debutant John Henderson.

The other three platers making their tournament debut, Scott Rand, Justin Pipe and Dave Chisnall, all face experienced opponents in the form of Wayne Jones, Mervyn King and Mark Walsh respectively.

Two-time finalist John Part drew Wales' Mark Webster, tenth in the PDC Order of Merit.
